Ima go with Chris. I just don't get into Martys work all that well. Something about his leads kills the song momentum for me. There's not enough malice in them. There's something that bugs me about his timing and intonation as well. The way he sustains pitches in a sick out of tune way. Some players can do that very well like, Slash or Dimebag, but when Marty does it i cringe a little.

I've always admired Marty's sense of pitch. His Vibrato is legendary in my mind. Same thing with his timing, he's spot on, but he's not locked down into a standard groove, usually he's running through something in a odd grouping like 5's or 7's which could make it sound off time, but he always brings it back.

Poison Was The Cure is a perfect example of that.

If you think Marty's leads of off-key, then you need to get your ears checked.

Marty plays notes in awkward groups and timing which is part of what made him so different and unique. Everything he plays flows. He has plenty of groove, and his scales just sound so unique. His solos brings songs like Lucretia and Tornado of souls to life! Like, damn...Marty is just THE MAN, and THAS IT!
          Marty +1

Both great players...I think Chris brings more technique to the party but Marty trumps him for uniqueness and phrasing. Take your pick.

Chris is actually quoted as saying that for Endgame he wanted to "emulate" the Megadeth sound by doing more pentatonic stuff. I'm doubting Mustaine instructed him to go that route considering it's treading on the only lead territory Mustaine knows.

Brodericks work on Endgame is certainly ripping, just like Mustaines. Gets a little fatiguing to the ear though when you can't clearly distinguish who is doing what and it all blurs together.

Chris Broderick is not even comparable to Marty. He's almost a youtube shredder.

I can't help to wonder how much more awesome RIP would have been if Dave could have convinced Dimebag to ditch Vinnie and join.

Plenty of respect for Dimebag, but I wouldn't even put him and Mr. Friedman in the same category of players. You sir are a blasphemer.

Imagine how awesome Peace Sells would've been with Kirk Hammett instead of Chris Poland. lol

Freidman isn't some kind of god. His solos all have pretty much the same structure: Some off the wall crappy melody with a flurry of notes every other bar or so.

                              hmn, but his tone sucked.

his riffs were what was killer about him, his leads were just average.

I wasn't going to touch on the Friedman vs Dime thing.. But the Friedman solos having the same structures is probably one of the most arrogant things I've read.. I love Dime, but I'm glad he wasn't on RIP. We got some killer Pantera albums and I truely think that the Friedman solo's are what really sealed the deal on RIP. He had a earie, aggressive, and melodic sound.

Dimes Rhythm was awesome, his riffs were awesome, and his leads were awesome as well. Listen to Cowboys From Hell, the solos were really structured. Once he got around FBD you could tell he cared more about the song then Flashy solos.
