  • Most iconic C/J?

Just for fun- When you think "Soloist" who do you think of and what axe? Kelly? Star?

And RR's are obvious so other than Mr. Rhoads, which RR is the most iconic?

For me Kirk's RRT stands out because I've been looking at it & loving it since the 80's.

    Chris Holmes Charvel (nominally) Star?

Vai's soloist? Green Meanie Charvel? Rising Sun? Bomber?

Stryper for the Soloist, Rhoads (besides Rhoads), and Kelly. Never saw anyone playing a Warrior except a pic of Trey Azagthoth. Listened to a Morbid Angel track and thought I'd die from laughter.

Chris Holmes was the only one I recall seeing using a Charvel Star.

For the King V it was Crosby in the Round and Round video.

As for Charvels, aside form EVH, I'd say the ones that stick out the most in my memory are Steve Lynch's "EKG" from Turn Up The Radio, George Lynch's yellow Bengal with the chains for strings (and/or the video on the flatbed trailer), DeMartini's sig models (Round and Round vid), and the one Vai used in Crossroads.

RR obvious, but I loved the one from Fates Warning (GMG with a dragon on the upper wing.)
KV- Robbin Crosby, Dave Mustaine, and RR0849
Soloist- I think of Carlos Cavazo, Wild and the Young video, sweet silver sparkle.
Kelly- I keep seeing in my minds eye the white pencil sketch graphic played by the dude from 'Odin' (Decline of WesternCiv II) Hated the band, fell in love with the axe.
Charvel- Chris Holmes Star, EVH 'bumblebee,' the Jake E. Lee 'strat', then Vai's Crossroads guitar.

For a Jackson Soloist, I think of Phil Collen with his silver/sparkle guitar in the video for Women. Also, Oz Fox with his cool yellow and black soloists.

For Charvel, it's George Lynch and his orange/black sub-camo from the Just Got Lucky video since when I first started listening to Dokken. Also, Warren from the Round and Round video.

              Hmmm Lemme think,
Soloist: Amir Derakh (Rhoads), Marty Friedman (Kelly), Phil Collen (PC1)
Chris Holmes Harley Davidson star was the first and only star I remember seeing.
Jake E Lee's strat and Warren Demartini's Snakeskin guitar were the first ones that turned me on to Charvels and I've been wanting one of each ever since.

If you remember Prince's guitarist used a Charvel star in the Lil' Red Corvette video or one of those vids of that same era, if I remember right. That's the earliest star that I remember.

I think of Stryper for the soloists and kellys.
Criss Oliva, Warren D and lynch for the Charvel strats
Crosby and Mustaine for the King V
Besides Randy then it's Stryper, Mustaine and Hammet for the Rhoads model.

Actually the one in the LRC video was an Aria.

I know there's more models on here than mentioned in the OP, but fuck it!

Star: Definitely Rob Cavestany from Death Angel (who, confusingly, I never associate with the Death Angel guitar.) followed by Chris Holmes' Budweiser and Harley Davidson.

Soloist : Jeff Hanneman, Phil Collen (Colon)

Firebird: Robbin Crosby, no-one else gets a look in, that was his guitar in my mind.

King V: As above, but sadly, because so many others use them, he lost my exclusive mental association, most notably thanks to Dave Shitstain.

                      Kelly : Marty Friedman, Stryper.

RR : Once again, I hardly ever associate Randy with this model mentally, for some reason I picture him with the polka V or a white Les Paul. The RR to me is forever associated with Dan Spitz, along with Scott Ian's white one (circa Speak English or Die), Kirk Hammet, and various thrashers like Vio-lence.

Also, notable mention for Chris Holmes' guitar with the zebra stripes (WTF model was that? A deformed RR?)

                      Jake E Lee's Strat

                      Warren de Martini's snakeskin.

Oh, and last but not least: Warrior. My very own Wilksy-Baby, oiled and hairless, whiter than a sheet of paper, legs apart, standing on the bed, wearing just his Spiderman underpants and his socks, miming to his Busted CD, before leaping off. (Followed by his Mum coming up and telling him to stop jumping about, he's got work in the morning and needs to go to sleep NOW)
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

                      I nearly broke her back

Soloist - Steve Vai's yellow "eyes" guitar

Rhoads - Scott Ian's white one, and the blue one played by the Japanese dude in Warrior

                        King V - Robbin's "Big Red"

Charvel Strat - Vai's Green Meanie

Star - Chris Holmes' Yellow beater

For me, iconic is really difficult to pin down in many cases, without just going for personal preference:

                          Iconic:
Charvel - EVH b/y, Jake's white reworked Fender, Vai's Green meanie
                          RR (non Randy) - Vinnie Vincent's? Hammett's?
Soloist - really struggling here: Vai's Pink? Hanneman's?
Strat - PC's Bela or Adrian Smith's main whitey. Maybe Vai's Jack Butler?
                          Firebird - RC's Catfish
                          Roundhorn - RC's b/w dragon
KV - RC's Big Red or Mustaine's Megadeth logo
                          Star - Holmes Budstar

                          Personal favourites:

                          Charvel - Jake's purple, Warren D's Frenchie
RR (non Randy) - Spitz TMNT, RR0849
                          Soloist - Spitz TMNT
Strat - Adrian Smith's main whitey
Firebird - RC white with Feathers (pre fishbone)
                          Roundhorn - RC's b/w dragon
                          KV - Mustaine's Megadeth logo
                          Star - Holmes' Budstar
