  • Saw Megadeth in Asheville, NC last night!

    Hey guys,
I saw the Megadeth, Testament and Exodus concert in Asheville last night. Exodus wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't really care for them. Testament could have stood to have a better mix. I couldn't hear Glen Drover well enough but my main complaint was that they didn't play but a couple songs of the older stuff. The did one song from Souls Of Black and one song from New Order (which wasn't Trial By Fire unfortunately). They did put on a good show though and Chuck Billy is just a freaking monster! That's one big dude!

Now on to Megadeth. I thought they sounded really good for the most part. Dave's vocals were a little light but he sounded like he was fighting a cold. Having Jr there was awesome! He nailed all his bass parts and it was just natural seeing him up there. He seemed to really be enjoying himself! Shaun Drover kinda looked like he was in pain or afraid he was about to be fired! HA HA! He played very well though. I know everyone is wanting to know about Broderick so here goes. First off, he's one of the coolest looking dudes I think I've ever saw. His whole persona was just cool. From his clothes, to his guitar to his expressions. He was the one that seemed like he was having the most fun of the night. He was very responsive and interactive with the crowd and kept a smile on his face. As for his playing, he nailed pretty much everything and did it most of the time without even looking at the fretboard. He's definately a monster player! I saw Megadeth back in 2005 with Glen Drover. IMO, they seemed a little tighter then and Drover was a little smoother. I think the smoothness though was because he used the neck pickup alot on the solos. I only saw Broderick switch to his neck pickup one time. I think this was intentional as Friedman hardly ever used a guitar that even had a neck pickup in it. I think he did this to try and get closer to Marty's tone. All in all it was a good night although I came back with an overdose of scooped mids, raspy, fizzy guitar tones! HA HA! Megadeth had the best tone IMO, Broderick in particular.

Lastly I went to a music store I'd never been to and came back with a new guitar! I took my trade fodder along with me and came home with this:

Cool. I saw Megadeth up here in D.C. and really enjoyed them, too. They need a more energetic drummer, though. Shaun Drover is ridiculously tight and precise, but he doesn't drive the songs very hard. Who knows, maybe that's what Mustaine wants.

I thought Testament stole the show, personally, even without Skolnick. They just came out at 150mph and destroyed the place.
