It's funny you accuse Reb of relying on trends given that he was a session ace before Winger and played many different styles depending on the gig. Since Winger he has continued to play basically the same style of hard rock in each band he has been in. Maybe he should have chased trends, started playing country rock and then stopped playing solos, before returning to thrash when the youngsters started getting into bands like Trivium, BFMV & Evile.

    Y'know, like Metallica did.
I'm not defending Metallica, I just dislike Winger's music more. He should know what vibrato is, it's a basic guitar technique. If you've been doing guitar instruction vids, I'm sure you would have to know what vibrato is unless you're cheating your viewers.

And just because he stayed with the same (once) trendy music, doesn't mean he's a got more artistic credit to his name. In that case, Korn would be a great band- they never left nu metal.

The whole reason they're even saying this stuff is because Metallica dumped on them in that video, and then Beavis and Butthead made Metallica look cooler than them. Not to mention it gives them publicity-there weren't any active threads about Reb Beach just yesterday, but now that he's made that comment, there's a thread. So how many looks is his band's new album gonna get now? More than if he hadn't made this comment. IMO, this was a publicity stunt by them, to get their name back in the game. Makes me appreciate bands like Overkill that revive themselves with real artistry.

Kirks lead playing has gone WAY downhill. His vibrato gets worse and worse.

Reb is human and has an opinion. I can't say I like any Metallica after Justice. Maybe Reb *gasp* isn't a fan of the band and doesn't care about them. There is more to life than Metallica.

Reb is a great player. Maybe he didn't make the right career decision before joining Winger. There's plenty of great players on this board who probably aren't in the best bands. So we should jump on them now?

i saw winger way back and the best thing about the show was the drum solo i think it was the dude from the dregs? well he kicked fucking ass.

the guitar solo was cool yeah, he did some taping stuff in stereo ping ponging and it just sounded cool live - great player - but Kirks richer, so i'm sure he gives a fuck about Reb Who?

of course, it is possible that he doesn't listen to heavier styles and only has a vague awareness of who is in what band. Shocking to all Metallica fans, I know. Who was the bass player in Kreator again? I like the band, but if someone asked me right now, I couldn't say. Unless I could sneakily google it....

This guy lost all credibility with that comment about vibrato. Anybody claiming to be a guitar great should know what the hell vibrato is....he's also butthurt because Lars is throwing darts at a Winger poster in the Nothing Else Matters video. The only reason anybody knows who Beach is is because he was first part of the big hair metal trend and now he's come back because of a sudden 80's nostalgia trend.

If he was really so great, he wouldn't need those trends to be known.

I agree. Everyone seems to bag on him but come on, the guy in the real scheme of things is pretty darn good, both in playing ability and in writing. Because there are other players who may do things better does not mean Hammet sucks, it just means they are better.

Hammett is leaps and bounds ahead of Beach. Not only in playing ability, but by being in a band that has endured 3 decades and keeps getting better. Not to mention, Hammett's choice of guitars is always a one up on Beach. The only solo I liked Beach do was "17" and that was just wanking off really fast, that's all.

can't disagree with anything Reb says. He doesn't make any comparisons between himself and Kirk, only comments on Hamster's playing.

Not only is Reb a smoking lead player, he writes some of the coolest rhythm riffs.
