How he took lessons from Satch, and did nothing with them, (can you

how can you say that? You can hear the influence of those lessons in loads of his solos.

in all fairness though, KH is a much better guitarist than me. Faster, more articulate, more hair. My bending & vibrato is better though.

i saw winger way back and the best thing about the show was the drum solo i think it was the dude from the dregs? well he kicked fucking ass.

Rod Morgenstein from The Dixie Dregs/Dregs/Steve Morse Band, yeah. In my opinion he was way out of Winger's league, but his wife Michelle was really sick and I think he needed the funds that an MTV type act would bring. You never know, the money from the Winger gig might have actually kept her alive a little longer (she died of cancer in '05 after a 22 year fight) A great musician and a nicer guy. You should hear him on the Steve Morse Band's disk "The Introduction".

I don't have a problem with any of the guys in either band, but Rod is a special musician IMHO.

Hammett is leaps and bounds ahead of Beach. Not only in playing ability, but by being in a band that has endured 3 decades and keeps getting better. Not to mention, Hammett's choice of guitars is always a one up on Beach. The only solo I liked Beach do was "17" and that was just wanking off really fast, that's all.

Mosh does too! Reb is a multitalented virtouso imo... he can go from
Winger to Dokken..to Chaka Kahn! Kirk would have problems sitting in
with Wheezer! :-)) Reb can play jazz fusion.. Country, blues...shred
and Pop. I put him right up there with Michael Landau ..

and at the end of the day i will still enjoy and listen to Metallica before anything Reb is apart of. I will pick music that is inspiring and sounds good to me over, talent.

I love Metallica. Heck I just saw them last year on the Death Magnetic tour. And I do like some songs on that album, in fact I'd say All Nightmare Long is in my top 10 Metallica songs list. I also think James is one of the great rhy. guitarists of all time. All that being said....Kirk Hammet sucks. He really does. He was actually distractingly bad the entire show, in fact he fucked up so bad on the solo for The Shortest Straw (its not that hard!) that I heard some boos. Reb on the other hand is a virtuoso. Taking aside the fact that Winger does in fact suck, he's still an amazing guitarist and I can't disagree with what he said. Maybe a little dickish of him, but on the other hand Metallica did cast the first stone. The subtle dig at Megadeth was uncalled for though. Marty and Dave are both amazing guitarists. And as much as I like Reb, I'd take either of them any day over Reb.

I don't think he was making a dig at Megadeth at all. I think that since Megadeth is always #2 to Metallica, he was jabbing at Kirk by mentioning Megadeth first, as if he didn't really know which was which. And I think he held the grudge longer because it was his good friend that got slagged more than if it'd been Reb himself. It was Kip's pic Metallica used for a dartboard - Kip who went through a lot of hell in subsequent years, including losing his wife in an auto accident. So I can understand Reb's loyalty to his good friend coming back in a retaliatory snub, when directly asked by a journalist who had to know he was poking an old wound, or else was really fucking stupid, to suggest that anybody has linked Reb and Kirk stylistically.

"Shortest Straw" is one of my favorite Kirk solos and I don't think he pulled it off there. It sounds like the way I play when I know the basic structure of a solo (whammy part here, fast ascent here, tapping here) but I don't know any of the actual notes.
