It was fucking great. Saw them at the Gramercy in NYC The opener was Operatika, some weedily weedily Nightwish copy local band. Their guitarist had a white Jackson superstrat, I think it was an SL2H not sure though.
The Finnish bands on the bill were Swallow the Sun, Moonsorrow, and Finntroll, playing in that order. Survivors Zero was supposed to be there too but visa troubles kept them out. Still, the show was amazing. The bands had great stage presence, and the whole crowd was moving. When StS got to their third song, the whole room (about 300 people, around 50-75 seated) was headbanging. I was up on the barrier the whole time, headbanged the whole time after the opener. I repped my Finnish heritage with my Suomi hockey jersey, I know alot of the crowd noticed and I'm sure at least the guitarist from Finntroll did too.
The music was tight, all the bands were on their shit, these weren't any second tier bands. They all used the same kit and amps, so the bands switching took maybe 15 mins total, basically just the band before them leaving and the the next band coming up and tuning. The opener's bassist's cable broke during their last song though and he got a shitload of horrible feedback, took a while for a roadie to come and replace his cable while he tried to play and hold the cable steady. Then during the Finntroll set the amps shut down in between two songs, but they steamrolled right over that without a hitch.
Overall, it was just a great night of Finnish metal. There wasn't a single person that didn't have a great time, from the number of people at the merch booth and then the people I talked too all enjoyed it. I almost got stuck in the city without a way home though, caught the last train and got home at 2....still it was all more than worth it and was a great concert. If they're coming near anybody here I'd say go see them!
