  • TSO Beethoven's Last Night in Mpls

Saw TSO perform "Beethoven's Last Night" at the State Theater in Minneapolis last night. Had 5th row seats.

Phenomenal show as always. I was impressed with how they still got a good, big sound in a small venue, without the mix turning into mush. Hats off to the sound engineer.

This was my first time seeing Chris Caffery perform. I was impressed. He said the last time he performed in Mpls was 20 years ago with Savatage at First Avenue. He played Gibson V's, a Gibson Les Paul, and some Dinky-style Deans. One of the Deans was custom painted with the new Night Castle album cover, and had a birdseye maple fretboard. Sharp looking axe.

Al Pitrelli played Les Paul for the Beethoven performance, and then switched to his black Explorer for the remaining non-Beethoven songs.

One of the singers played guitar on a few songs (can't remember his name, too lazy to walk upstairs to get the tour book), and he played a black Charvel So-Cal pro mod.

I was hoping they'd have played more additional songs at the end of the night, but Al said they had a curfew (for the venue or for noise level, I assume) so they only played about 4 additional songs after the Beethoven story.

The ticket was a birthday present from my family. I bought a tour book and hung around after the show to get it autographed. A nice reminder of a unique TSO performance, as this was their first non-Christmas tour.

There's not a lot of time to chat while getting autographs, but I did thank Al for including Minneapolis on this short 31 city tour. He said "It's a lot nicer here now that it's not so cold out".

I've been wondering what the tour was like and if they were going to be using the "core/original" members. I'd loved to had saw Chris Caffery and Pitrelli together. Thanks for the review!

i saw this tour at Radio City Music Hall earlier this month, great show..thought the narration
got a little long winded at times but other then that i really enjoyed it and the sound and laser/background
effects were top notch..actually i prefer TSO in the smaller venues
