  • Veteran bands giving the finger to new music....

So, a trend has started with veteran rock bands that irks me to the core.

Joe Perry just said in an article that there is no reason for Aerosmith to record new music. His reasoning was based on the fact that since he has already recorded a number of masterpieces that there is no reason to repeat himself...and then something to the tune of no one cares about new music from Aerosmith.

EVH has stated the same thing...that if he put new music out no one would care.

Is it me or this the biggest crock of shit you have ever heard????

Us fans, who have been following these bands for 30 years now get to spend $250 to see our "heros" play the same song every summer on tour.

I think by not releasing new music these bands have alienated the only people who ever gave a shit about them in the first place. Now they are deciding to focus their efforts clearly on where the money is....touring. And we all know the people who see Aerosmith these days are probably more along the lines of casual fans who needed a night of entertainment. That's the only reason I could understand people paying to hear Walk this Way for the millionth time.....

I guess thats the thanks we get for making them rich by buying their music over the course of decades...music that I guess people only cared about when the artist could profit from it.

It just occurred to me that ACDC managed to release the best selling album of 2009 with Black Ice. I dont hear them crying about no one caring about their music!

That's cause AC/DC has musical drive still in the band, nobody got addicted to durgs or anything...isn't funny how they always sang about the sex drugs and rock n' roll lifestyle, yet they never got dragged into it?

I understand your argument, deflep, but for every one person who shares you view, it seems like there are at least ten who will piss & moan if they go to a show by a classic band and hear too much of the new stuff compared to the old hits. Priest, Iron Maiden, Rush, Def Lep, etc., the list goes on & on. At some point, the members of the bands sense the feedback & it has to wear on them. Sure, some of them have been mailing it in and probably should pack it in, but not all of them. Some of them really are trying hard and feel like they've got something left in the tank, but they end up getting mostly a bunch of grief for their effort, so it's kind of a two-way street, imo.

          RATT - check it out.

As far as AC/DC, they've been playing the same song for almost 40 years.

I totally agree that its gotta wear you down at some point.

I guess you have to give Bon Jovi credit for at least trying. Apparently, he plays seven songs from the Circle on this latest tour. I'm sure most people hit the bathroom during these songs but at least Jon isn't boring his real fans. u2 also releases new music when they tour and they soldier on even when their new music gets a lukewarm response.

Kinda bums me out that Aerosmith and Van Halen believe they have nothing left to say.

I don't give BJ much credit at all. Their last albums have been boring, and each one is basically a re-write of the last. It isn't true to their roots (anyone remember their COUNTRY ALBUM?!?!), but he makes millions, so who cares? I was a real fan. Not so much any more. They're a corporation, not a band.

I'd rather enjoy a band for what they were, than be bored by them for what they've become. With very few exceptions, most of the new stuff put out by bands from "the day" have not brought it.

Yep... And if I remember right, Malcolm & Angus both had battles with the bottle too.

I'm all for no more Aerosmith records with a horn section. Perry probably has no dersire or feels his time us best spent touring and living off royalties. Seriously what was their last good record? All their 90s stuff was super lame. I'd rather them not pull a Metallica and release half assed records.

Yeah but they kept on through that. They never got the rock star diva mentality is what I'm getting at.

Ill probly get flamed for this, but I agree. I wouldnt care and dont. Glad EVH finally took that position as well. I didnt like him then, I dont like him now and $100 a ticket for shit seats at recent concerts because hes the great and glorious EVH is a crock. Same goes for AC/DC, though I would like to hear something new from them. Its amazing all the songs you can make with the 3 chord rule.

I don't even bother listening to the radio anymore; I hate new music. New "country", nu-metal...etc.

As much as I love EVH, I think he's done.

IMO Aerosmith has sucked ass for at least a decade.

I recently bought Ratt's new CD, the first time I think I've paid for music in 10 years, and am loving that however.

Well Kiss's newest album Sonic Boom is pretty good and they only do three of the songs live, two are the best songs on the album, one is an opportunity for a pee. That's a pretty good balance in my book!

Guys go on the oldies circuit for the $$$ but I think at some point they probably regret it. When there's nothing new, after a few years the shows become nostalgia gigs, and it's just a totally different feel.

Dickinson from Maiden gets pretty vocal about not really liking to be pushed into doing only "classic" stuff. I think they did their fans a solid by doing the Somewhere Back In Time tour....and they did themselves a solid too, because now they can say, "piss off already, we did a whole tour of old shit."

I guess Maiden is kind of a different story tho- A Matter of Life & Death was one of their best in years, not just a re-tread of their earlier stuff. So I guess if you still got it you got it, and if you don't, might as well admit it and move on.
