BLS is supposedly headlining the 2nd stage of Ozzfest, which he's done in the past. I'm a fan of Zakk and I really like BLS, and of course, Ozzy, but it'll be refreshing to hear another guitarist's interpretation of Ozzy's songs than Zakk's.

I never saw Ozz the last time he played out, but apparently Zakk wasn't too good. Booze was probably a big reason why, but he apparently stopped after almost dying of an embolism last year, and he sounded great when I saw BLS last October. Anyway, I'm looking foward to seeing both bands at Ozzfest...the Crue too! I'm most psyched to see Mick play live!

Everything about Gus G still belies him as a kid who got dumped in a huge candy store rather than a legitimate guitar god in the making, check out his "...you know?" interview on Guitar Player.

The kid is a competent hired gun with bad hair, when he matures as a player and a human being I hope he manages to get enough longevity with Ozzy to have the balls to set his mark on Ozzy's records and show us what he's got.

Watched a few vids on youtube--it's gotten to the point where they're wheeling Ozzy's near rigor mortis corpse out there. I kept looking for wires. Gus plays alright, but it's clearly not his style. Kinda like Timo Tolkki playing in Blue Oyster Cult or something. So wrong, it's disturbing.

Gus G's work on the Ozzy album was basically that of a "hired gun". He was brought in to record and play stuff live. He didn't write any of it though. So don't blame him for it sucking.

As for whoever said Gus sounds like a mix of Zakk Wylde and Alexi Laiho...Not so much. For a real look at his style check out his work in FireWind. Also, his work with Nightrage on their first two albums Sweet Vengeance and Descent into Chaos is really great. His style definitely has those "euro shredder" elements to it, but also combined with aspects of the Gothenberg melodic death metal scene and there is a certain jazz influence in a lot of his solo work.

Gus G is a great player, and the work he does in his own bands is really good. The Ozzy gig is just a paycheck.

Don't know much about Gus G the player, but I dig the looks of his ESP sig model Star. Wish someone near me would get one in stock, so I could try one out. Except for the inlays, looks like a cool guitar.

There's a new Black Label Society album coming out shortly. He'll still show up at every ozzfest.

My take on this is that Gus is a great player. Don't really connect with the Firewind stuff although I tried, and the Ozzy stuff is played well....but he didn't write any of it. Can he? I guess we'll see if Ozzy makes it back to the studio for another disc.

As for Zakk, I don't think BLS will be going away any time soon because their fans are fanatical like he's some sort of God...which honestly, I don't really get. He wrote A FEW good songs for Ozzy, but a lot of it is just boring, and when it comes to BLS, it's been mostly crap since 1919 Eternal which I do like minus some filler and that crappy drum machine sound.(are there any cymbals on this disk?) Zakk is a pretty good lead player, but like his songs, gets predictable and boring. I know him and Dime were really close, but it never really rubbed of on him. Dime's solos were never really boring, even the easier melodic stuff.
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

LOL I was gonna make a comment about the Hair/attire combination...strange mix, but stopped myself.

Book of Shadows was great and I think that it was his best work.

How much do you have to drink for Ozzy fucking Osbourne to point his finger at you and call you a drunk?!?
This is a trick question. The real question is how much do you have to drink before Sharon fires you?
