To save everyone else the Googling, it's a VH-1 series called Classic Albums, and there's apparently a DVD of it.
As for the guitar, depending on when the shows were filmed it may have been a Signature, a brand Lifeson was reported to have either started or co-founded.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
The most human thing we can do is comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
sorry I wasn't clear enough, thought I'd seen another thread about this new show premiering but that must have been another board.
and you are right. I was thinking it was footage from an early 80's tour, before he started using the Signatures, but by the band's appearance and the design on the front of Neil's bass drum it was the Hold Your Fire tour, exactly when he started using those.

"When a naked man is chasing a woman through an ally with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross"............ Dirty Harry
not being a dick, but what is it that you guys like about Rush? i have NEVER been able to get into them and i wonder what the fuss is all about. i WANT to know. is this DVD a good place to get an idea? that guy's voice drives me insane and any of their songs i have heard have been kinda cheesy....
GEAR:
some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!
some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!
and finally....
i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!
I listened to a lot of Rush growing up. The commercial stuff that you hear on the radio is not what I consider their best stuff. They create some incredible instrumentals - not shred, but complicated and melodic with a lot of changes in tempo, mood, and themes. You are not alone in not liking them. I have talked to numerous music fans and musicians and the following is all over the place - love'em, hate'em, who? and whatever. I am not a Rush fan boy , but I do enjoy alot of their music. That helped quite a bit, didn't it??

Except for the "NEVER" part of your statement...that's how I felt about Rush
for a few years.
There are a lot of bands I don't like and probably never will, due to Cookie Monster vocals.
Geddy's voice has matured and come down an ocatave since the early days.
And actually it is the songs that Peart pens that opened the door for me.
I certainly never try to convince people they need to be fans...I understand how you feel!

no, not really. If you've seen the classic album series, it is mainly just fooling around in the studio with the mix, the band members playing various parts of songs live and then it blends into the studio recording, this one is mainly for us geeks out there that love em. (like telling the story behind the story of 2112,.... boring to anyone not already familiar with every note on that album, but a treasure for some of us).
like Cygnus XI, I never try to make music converts. when I was young, maybe, but you like what you like. I've played Ah Via Musicom for lots of people over the years, most people are just "eh, I didn't like the country stuff", and I used to be like, damn, don't you understand the level of mastery going on here? It's like a love letter to the guitar and all of his influences? "Huh?"
anyway, if you want to hear some good Rush, just dive in to the mostly older stuff. I still love the newer, but my roots are firmly planted with this band and some might not care for the newer stuff. For some good hard rock, try Bastille Day, most of the Rush and Fly By Night albums, for an example of their melodic mastery, try La Villa Strangiato, to hear what initially put them over the top, try the first side of 2112 (some pretty heavy stuff mixed in there). I'm going to stop now, because I'm sure there are many a Rush fan screaming at me, WHAT ABOUT Xanadu,WHAT ABOUT Circumstances, WHAT ABOUT fill in the blank.
in short, they are a very tight melodic rock band that sparks something in certain people like no other band. If you know a Rush fan, get them to make you a mix cd. Even if you can't take Gedd's vocals, you should appreciate stuff like La Villa Strangiato as a guitar player.

Taken from Rush's 1978 Album Hemispheres, a great classic instrumental piece. I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WMG OWN'S THIS CONTENT BUT FAIR USE IS LAWFUL. Under the c...
