He is/was phenominal. But I get bored listening to him. It seems like he always tries to fit as many notes in every measure as he can.

      Never seen that before... Wow.

I kind of think he deserves to be drunk and fat and banging supermodels when he's not busy crashing Ferrari's, because that was fucking amazing.

I'm glad I clicked this thread. I love seeing old Yng posts. You watch this and you know why they call him the Maestro.

Oh, and *Insert unfunny donut joke here*

Man, he's good! I think his technique has only gotten smoother with time. It's amazing how little motion he exerts with his sweeps. Oh, and I think he's shoehorning himself in those same pants today!

He had so much more fire and aggression in his playing back then. I remember seeing these videos back in the day and it was so discouraging because I didn't think I could ever pick like that. And I can't!

Gotta post a live version of Black Star with a cool acoustic opener:

That's cool. I'm still on a quest to try and figure out where a classic 3 single coiled strat fits into heavy metal, and this is perfect. Just last night I was looking at an ebay auction for an Aria ad featuring Yngwie and Alcatrazz.

Yea at 43 seconds was the first time I ever heard Yngwie hold a harmonic like that and Ive seen a lot of his solos. And at 57 seconds that tone is the heaviest I ever heard from him as well. Although Don I believe he plays stacked singles so technically they arent true single coils.

Amazing how much of that solo can be found on the Steeler album. That Steeler album is an absolute all-time classic.

I just picked up an HS-2 and HS-3 to try out. But which one goes where, and which one am I missing?

I like watching him flick that 5 way back and forth, trying to keep an eye on which pickup he is using.

Don, if I recall correctly (from a GW article, GP maybe?) he leaves the middle pickup disconnected in most of his guitars and usually just uses bridge and neck. But he changes back and forth a ton. Several times per song/solo usually. People often don't give Yngwie much credit, they look at the speed and say "There is no emotion in his playing, it's just fast." I don't understand why they can't see the dynamics of his playing. The guy's vibrato and use of volume swells is ninja level.

The current sig is using HS-3 bridge and YJM middle and neck. I believe it used to be HS-3 bridge and HS-2 middle and neck.
