That album IS incredible. Watershed is a great album too. Coil is one of the most beautiful, haunting songs I've ever heard and then they follow it up with the craziest super heavy cookie monster song in Heir Apparent. They are the only metal band that I generally like the use of keyboards in.
I don't like their cookie monster stuff in general but I can appreciate the musicianship that every member of the band brings forward. And I can honestly say I don't know of a single person I know in my day to day life that has ever bought an Opeth song/album or knowingly heard one. And the other thing is they can pull off the songs live sounding true to the recording.

Racer X should have been huge.
So should Voivod, Sodom and Coroner.
May I also say that I should be smothered in equal parts affluence and decadence by now. This meagre, comfortable existence was not part of my teenage plans at all. Still, there is yet time. All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

Motorhead. Have a listen to "Too good to be true" studio version and although it may seem a bit peculiar for them, "Love me Forever" -again studio version. These are somewhat of a departure from "Ace of Spades" which is of itself not bad, just quite over-associated with them. Also there is an acoustic version of "I ain't no nice guy" (without Ozzie - MTV unplugged session I think) which is very good.
As for guitar players a previous post nailed it with Alex Lifeson. Check out "Cold Fire" or "Bravado". I have mentioned these two songs before.

As for my choice of underrated bands.....I gotta say what I always say. LIZZY BORDEN!Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!
