+1 This is where I'm at.

I'm actually not all that excited simply becuase the VH bros have proven time and time again they are walking disaster.
Sueing anybody and everybody is a huge turn off.
When you know they got more money then they know what to do with.

Ed can't stay clean and sober long enough and that usually train wrecks everything.
    I'm supportive for his sobriety.
But rock n roll and sobriety and clean living don't go together and never will.

The level and degree of temptation is extremely high, more so than what many realize.
I simply seeing it train wrecking again because of Ed falling out the wagon and the temper tantrums he throws alot.

But it would be nice to see a total go for the throat high energy VH album that's reminiscent of the early VH tone.
I swear if it sounds like any close to VH3 I will vomit. That god forsaken album was awful. I can fart better music that is on that album.

Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

"Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, there's a bee in the pudding.

I think Ed can afford to maintain his lifestyle for 9 or 10 lifetimes as it is lol...

Hopefully something good will come out of it.. but I'm not counting on it either. I think the guy really wants to make good music still & im sure he can if some of the rest of his life was in order.

Fact of the matter is as much as everyone pisses on him, by 1980 He already changed the entire world of guitar music & the guitar manufacturing industry forever. Every hoople headed douchebag with a guitar wanted to be like EVH. If VH only made that 1st album in 78' he'd have still accomplished more than all but a very small handful of guitarists have in the history of electric guitar.

Funny thing is (to me) so many people i know personally who piss on Ed can barely tune a guitar themselves & go would go into spastic fits attempting to play even something simple like Runnin With The Devil... Its much easier to say the guy sucks than admit you suck a million times worse & couldnt make a worthy contribution to a shoe tree let alone do what He did when He did it. That said.. he aint done shyte in at least a decade worth paying for lol

if VH is in the studio with uli roth that is gonna be KILLER!!!!!

          joking....

on the serious side, having never been much of a VH fan i don't get what the big deal is. weren't VH basically a party band? i was too young to "get it" when they were putting out their "best" albums. perspective - i was in the 5th grade when 1984 came out. i always found VH to be better with sammy hagar because he is a better singer and writes better songs.

i hope Vh can put out party music that makes people happy, but something tells me that most will be disappointed because you really can't ever go back....
          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Yep, like most great rock'n'roll bands and performers. Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and Elvis played in ballrooms/dance halls for partying teenagers, the same thing was done by The Kinks, The Beatles, The Who, The Kingsmen, The Sonics etc. Van Halen was the same kind of band only with different guitar sound. Van Hagar was different of course, the focus became more on safe production and normative songwriting to appeal to middle aged housewives. I've never been into housewife-oriented-rock, I don't get what's the big deal, probably because I'm not a housewife. Journey and bands like that have great musicians but the music itself is pretty fucking stupid.

I actually liked Journey a lot until Greg Rolie left the band and they totally surrendered to bland ballad bullshit. Even their ballads were less schmaltzy in the Rolie years than with Jon Cain. Fairly analogous to the difference between Van Roth and Van Hagar, even though Journey were always more pop-oriented.

But I agree with your main point, rock and roll is SUPPOSED to be party music for teenagers and young adults. The adult contemporary shit Van Hagar did is for married people. I just hope Janie is not a keyboard sap like Valerie was, I think Val ruined Ed before Sam came along. She's the one who would make him want a Sam in the first place.

Interesting conversation guys. I never heard of VH as catering to "middle aged housewives" before. What albums would that fall into? I saw the band many times, Ed is a guitar god, and can play like a mofu, no doubt.

I don't know if I'd say that, but the Sammy years were way more mainstream-oriented, radio-friendly, etc. I think Diver Down and 1984 were already headed that direction anyway so I don't really say that it was "Van Hagar" that was the problem, it was just that I didn't really care for 5150/OU812 and all that stuff because it wasn't edgy and raw like everything up to and including Fair Warning.

Plus, as much as I like him, as far as I am concerned Sammy sucks as a live singer, every fucking time we ever saw them (3 or 4 times between my friends & I) he had "laryngitis" and would have to stop singing halfway through songs and stuff.

I have no doubt that Ed has mellowed with age and there is really no going back to "the old days" no matter who is singing. :dunno:

Yea go figure.. I live in New York, but even I know if ya got a Camaro.. especially a 79 ya gotta park it in jersey lol

I found out the hard way in sayerville its actually against the law to leave your car parked i the same spot for over 48 hours or it can get impounded.. usually never happens unless a neighbor calls & complains, but I got the little orange sticker sayin if its not moved in 24 hours it getting impounded. . Turns out if you move it 6 feet youre safe.. but i had to drag my ass from brooklyn to sayerville to move 6 feet in the snow! Almost got in trouble when I inquired what happens if someone goes on vacation for a week ?
