Seems to me I would have come across a bit more polite and protective of my band mates.

Kind of harsh statement about Gary Moore as well if you ask me.

if he had dropped that first sentence in his response about Gary Moore, it would have been quite a nice response.

I've seen Viv interviews where he has seemed to lack any kind of internal censor, but that seemed to be one of his better ones. Must be mellowing in his old age

I didn't understand what he said about Gary to he harsh at all. He was very complimentary with respect to his comments about the video with BB King...

Yeah, read the whole interview. In 70% of it, he talks about Gary Moore and praises him heavily. The interview is very good and shows a more positive side of the Viv person. Maybe he has really lit up again (as he hints) due to be playing live with Gorham and Downey. Downey playing with "Lizzy" again is news to me and pretty awesome to hear!

He also explains in detail the problems he had with Dio. His comments actually makes sense to me and doesn't portray him as an asshole.

The statement about Moore passing away was way harsh IMHO. Could have said something softer that that. As for Rick's limitations, did he need to be so brazen as to publicly put him down given his limitations? To harsh and impolite for me.

            He is Irish, not American.

And in another interview states how he never gets to shred live anymore and that Phil has all the good solo's etc.... Says that Steve Clark's solo's are not complicated at all but melodic and boring to play live....

Phil responds by saying that "he came to my house" and that the majority of the live songs date back before Viv joined so what does he want?

              I dunno.....

he just stated that on a personal level, Gary's passing didn't mean much to him, as they didn't know each other. This fixation on "where were you when heard the news...." and paying what other's deem appropriate tribute to someone on their death.... Viv then goes on to talk about what a huge influence Gary was on the young Viv, and how much he ripped off Gary's playing. And I didn't see him ripping on the drummer either - just stating the limitations of the band situation, with the special considerations they have to make to allow the drummer to work with the band. At no point did he say he had a problem with it - in fact, he seems remarkably respectful of his position in both Def Leppard and Thin Lizzy. He knows his place and seems comfortable with it.

so this isn't really about this interview at all. It's about looking for something to take offense to, based on previous things Viv has said?

I dunno...I guess we all "read" into things in a different light I suppose. I do see your point mind you.

I know what mean though, man. We've all seen those interviews where Viv slags off former bandmates and employers, other bands & musicians, current bandmates. But this interview seemed pretty good to me

Viv has two options if he thinks his playing is going stale:

                        1) just shred at soundcheck and make it available as a single on itunes or post it on youtube to get a buzz going about himself again if that's what he wants.

                        2) join a Dio tribute band

He always moans about not being challenged in Def Leppard, but, forgive me if I'm wrong - hasn't he written quite a few songs for DL? Write some fucking good solos in there as well then, instead of moaning that there aren't any!

i think he was mad at him because of his old band vivian was in sweet savage lots of the songs of holy diver where orginally from sweet savage and dio didnt even give him credit for the songs that made and stole from his old band
