He doesn't suck..he's just not THAT good.

I went to see Whitesnake in '87 ..when they supported the girls, girls, girls tour. I was front and center..belly to the stage. I was Soooooooooooooooooo fuggin' pissed when Vivian walked on the stage. I went to that show to see one of my faves..John Sykes. I was so mad ..I popped a grape! So, I completely ignored Vivian (fuggums) and watched the flying dutchman instead!

BTW..aside from Dio. Viv's best work of his career was with Riverdogs. That's actually a very good release..any fan of Viv should have. I give personal credit to Viv for ONE thing. He was the one that turned me onto the BBE 422. I had a '90 vid where he praised that unit when he was uses nothing but his Randall's and the mandatory 4 foot tall 1990's rack o' shit...

I have his classic instructional video on VHS. I did like those nightswans at that time. When you watched those instructionals from Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert. Malmsteen and such..Viv just seemed so insignificant..during his heyday.
I agree, Viv was a step down from Blackmore as far as being an interesting player went. He was pretty good, but with Alcatrazz and Malmsteen coming on the scene at about the same time, his level of play was really superceded. What's worse is that he has always shown contempt for the biggest thing he ever did musically, the Dio stuff.

He was a prick for saying Gary Moore's death didn't affect him, even if it was true. As much as he claims to have taken from Moore's playing, if it didn't make him sad, well he's a douchebag. I didn't know Gary personally either, but I shed some tears over his loss. His playing was just too great not to be sad that he is gone from this world.

Then again, Gary never said my playing didn't impress him; he DID say that about Viv. Heh heh!

Viv talks of going "back" to that High and Dry sound. Neither he nor Phil were there for that, so THEY can't go back. They could try and replicate what Willis and Clark did.

He's lucky, he has a cush job in a band that still makes a good living even in reduced circumstances. He should kiss Joe Elliott's ass every single day, Joe got him in Def Leppard AND this Scab Thin Lizzy. He is lucky but sees the glass half empty.

Vivian is douche. Plain and simple, imo. I saw him at the NAMM show shortly after it was announced that he was the new guitarist in Def Leppard. I went up to him to congratulate him and I said something like, "Hey, hopefully you can get that back to a heavier sound like the earlier albums." And his response was, "Actually, I wanna take them in the complete opposite direction." I just looked at him like WTF?

So to see him talking about wanting the band to get back to a High & Dry type of thing just makes me shake my head. Yeah, he could have changed his mind all these years later, but seriously, what has he recorded and released to make anyone thing that's true?

And to complain in multiple interviews that his "job" is boring just makes him look like an unappreciative asshole. He is damn lucky to have this gig. Considering his level of guitar skill, where else would he be? Not a lot of high paying gigs out there for someone like him. I really wish the band would get rid of him. Hey Joe, I'm available!

Ronnie signs autographs after Heaven and Hell Radio City Show in NYC and expresses his feeling towards Vivian Campbell Saying "He hope he fucking dies" check...

Probably seen a thousand times and posted somewhere else on the forum, but it still makes me laugh.

I like each in their own way. But Vivian Campbell has been coming off like a douche for a long time.

I've seen that before, and it's classic! Dio never said a bad thing and put up with a lot of bad-mouthing from Viv over the years.

I just watched this, I was always one of those who though Viv could "out shred" Phil, but after watching this godawful POS I've changed my mind.

Not really. I read it on Metal Sludge in the midst of all the threads about Gary Moore's death. I think the particular thread was the one where Viv was quoted as saying Gary's death didn't affect him. You could go over there and join up and look for it, I'm sure. You can't read those boards unless you're a member, so even if I were inclined to go back, look for it and link it for you, you wouldn't be able to read it unless you're a member of that board. And if you ARE a member, you can go search for it under either Viv or Gary. Be reading through a few threads though...

Well you have to say Dio was clearly goaded into making that statement, and he did apologize for it later. You can catch anybody on a bad day and hit them with a setup and get them to snap like that. Fact remains that nobody would know who Vivian Campbell is today if Dio had not plucked him from obscurity to play in his band.
