Everybody has the right to their own opinions, but don't get your feelings hurt just because not everyone agrees about this. As for it being the JCF, Lynch plays ESPee, not Jackson or Charvel. I don't like Lynch Mob or Badlands because I don't like their songs and think their best work was with their previous bands. So the song argument fails at trying to change a personal opinion. Why hate Levin for showing so much respect to Lynch as to perform in his style better than Lynch himself can do today? That's Lynch's fault for slacking, not Levin's for being on top of things.

I'm with you 100% on not liking a particular musician. It's not that I don't like their styles, but the fact that I don't like their bands following what they'd accomplished prior.

It's been over 20 years since Dokken's day in the sun, and considering he's probably still been playing for the past 20 years, he's probably significantly better today than he was then, though, I will agree it's not apparent in his music these days.

i'm eye poppingly shocked Rich that you didn't dig badlands or the lynch Mob's tunes. odd actually.
to each his own. and i never said i hated john levin, i just said i'd rather be the guy he's copying.
Maybe lynch isn't up to snuff on his playing, i don't know but he writes tunes i dig alot more with the mob than with dokken.
the guy is also getting older, maybe he's just not into trying to make a fret board start smoking anymore, nothing wrong with that. Not helping the situation since 1965!

Being a fan of the guy's work and being realistic about his current abilities are two different things. He's NOT as good as he was years ago and only severe nutswingers would even try to debate that.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes and no one can tell you that you're wrong for liking or not liking a certain band or guitarist. But I'm using the word "like" in that statement. I love Dokken, but almost daily over on Metal Sludge people say stuff like "Dokken sucks, always have, no one ever liked them." Um, yeah ok, whatever. Your opinion.
I am going to say that it is a major error in judgement to say that George is as good or even better than he was back in the day. It simply isn't true. I've heard the cds, seen the youtube clips, and seen him live right in front of me. He released a cd last year called Orchestral Mayhem (I think). I ordered it without hearing it first. Wow, total garbage. I later read that he recorded all of his guitar parts for it in eight hours! I also got the latest Lynch Mob cd, Smoke and Mirrors. Now Oni sounds great and some of the songs are ok, but there is not a good/memorable solo on the whole thing. He has lost his mojo, maybe his will to play great. I really don't understand the comments that always come up in these threads about him being as good as ever. But hey, if you like listening to his current playing and enjoy it, more power to you. I wish I was there. He's got a new solo cd coming out soon. You might want to check it out. For me, I can't wait to hear another Dokken cd with Jon Levin ripping up the fretboard.

I couldn't care less what he's done post-Dokken, because look at what the other members of Dokken have done. Where's Mick Brown? As for Jeff Pilson, he's playing with some band like freakin' Night Ranger or somethin'. Where's Don Dokken? Look no further than the closest buffet to his home. Those guys don't exactly have stellar careers these days...
George isn't the only guy to lose his mojo. Look at Metallica. They haven't put out a good album since 1991. With the trash they've been releasing, I'm amazed they still have fans. What about Motley Crue? When's the last time they put out an album worth listening to? Kiss? Motorhead? Aerosmith?

Where are they now:
Jeff Pilson - plays bass in Foreigner (their latest cd is quite good)
Don Dokken - still fronting Dokken and keeping Hometown Buffet in business
Mick Brown - still in Dokken, played some Lynch Mob gigs recently, also tours with Ted Nugent in the summerBreaking Point, my all instrumental CD available here:

He probably just doesn't care.

If you are saying he COULD rebuild his chops if he wanted to, well maybe that is possible - but he CAN'T play his own stuff properly as it stands today. If you think otherwise, find some current clips of him playing TODAY where he nails his own stuff. Believe me, I'd be glad to see that.Ron is the MAN!!!!
