My wireless on stage with Dennis DeYoung last evening...

Fun and cool story I wanted to share with you.

My buddy August who plays for Dennis DeYoung was in town for a gig last evening. He got me a pair of tickets to see the show. As I was about to leave home to drive downtown, I got a SMS from him saying his wireless unit had just crapped out. Not too worried, I grabbed my Line6 Relay G50 and texted him that I would have it with me. He did not remember that I own one (he was the one who convinced me to go with the G50 instead of the G30).

Sorry for the really bad pics, I left home thinking about the wireless unit instead of taking my camera with me, so the photos are blurry, they were taking with my office BlackBerry (I hate this phone ).

Dennis was pretty cool. He knew I was the one who helped with the wireless unit. He is 64 years old. He gave a very good show. All the musicians were awesome and top players. Very humble and nice folks.

That was for me a very nice and special evening. Styx was for one of the first bands that introduced me to rock music. I had not heard most of these songs for so many years. I had goose bump most of the evening.

I have seen him and the show is great. he is an AMAZING singer. probably the best there is IMO. he always opens with "grand illusion" and when you hear him hold that vibrato on the opening line Illusionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, you get frickin goose bumps. he is just that frickin good. not many share the same talent level with him.

Oh yea, and BTW, the "styx" band sucks ass. they are more like a Styx tribute garage band than the real thing without Dennis. They just fall WAY short of hitting the mark. Dennis is the real deal. he sounds like the record.

Well said. And he is 64 years old!!! Damn it, are you going to be in that shape at his age? My wife was very impressed by the fact that this old guy was rockin' out on stage and giving a very good show. He was also very down to earth and easy to speak too when we went back stage. A nice person.

The whole band he has with him are top musicians. All very good players and also very humble guys. They all knew about me helping with the wireless and it was like a running gag when I met them after the show.

Sounds like a great time! I was supposed to meet him at a show about 6 years ago, but we had a death in the family that morning and I wasnt able to go. I bought a backstage pass that was a charity fundraiser thing. I had front row ticket, and backstage pass. I paid $100 to meet him, and I didnt get to.

Oh yea, the other part is, he is an amazing piano player. he plays with laser precision, AND sings at that amazing level that only he can do. there truly are not many musicians left like him. he is in a league by himself.
