With amps you tend to see an enormous backline of marshall heads (I counted 36 at a Megadeth show), but the last I heard both Broderick and Mustaine both play through rack amps. So that entire backline was probably for advertising puproses only. Plus I'm not entirely sure how you would go about hooking up 36 JVM410's in series?

Advertising sponsorship has got to be a big part of why big bands play brands. Just like sportsmen all wearing certain brands sports apparel. I am willing to bet those artists play boutique (or just their old faithful) when they record, write and just jam.

As far as I know, Broderick plays or played Engl and at least in one video claimed to be using the Fractal's stuff. And you mean cabs, right? I've been to like five Megadeth shows in recent years, and I've never seen a head but plenty of Marshall cabs...

Custom software? I find that hard to believe. It would be a pain to support...

Their tour with Machine Head 2 years ago. We saw them at Peoria, IL. There was the usual backline of cabs, but double stacked on the cabs were JVM410H's. All them were lit up like they were on. I thought it most likely to be an advertising gimmick.

On the Broderick/Engl note, I asked the FoH sound guy at the show about that since the show we'd seen previously on Gigantour Broderick had had big problems with his system cutting out. He told me that after that show Broderick had ditched the Engl setup for a Marshall one. apprently it got turned off somehow and when it was rebooted it had wiped all his presets, and he didn't have a spare. That's gotta suck for the tech who had to rapidly reprogram all that whilst the show was going on. What I was most impressed with that that Dave was picking up all of the solos until Broderick was back on!

bratfink, ah, I see. I saw them as recently as in March, but (for some peculiar reason) Slayer was headlining, so what I assume were Slayer's cabs were all covered by banners when Megadeth played (strange since both Mustaine and Slayer use Marshall). The other times, like I said, I've never seen a head on stage. Mustaine has a signature head now, right? At least I tried a head that said Dave Mustaine the last time I was in LA... I'm not really into Marshalls so I don't know much about it, although it had a ton of knobs and modes.

An amp that has to be rebooted? I assume that must have been one of the MIDI-controlled ones. I think he plays (or played, as the case may be) the Special Edition head.

Speaking of Megadeth, I was just watching the recent Big Four show from Sweden on youtube, and Dave looked old and tired, played extremely poorly (I've never seen him play so bad before) and sounded terrible. He didn't really try to sing stuff like Holy Wars. I wonder if he was ill or something. I'm not going to post a link, it was that bad.

About that Broderick video, it was actually quite funny, because when he was demonstrating his Fractal unit, he was actually running an Engl model on it. I think it was called Euroball

                    Chris Broderick showing his rig.Axe FX - Chris's settings. Thanks to Biggness from sevenstring.org forum!Amp - EnergyballDrive - 6.26 - boost onBass - 9.41Mi...

Ah, it was Energyball not Euroball.

Regarding the other discussion, he's running it into a Marshall power amp...

I love his white Ibanez. Too bad they didn't make em production.

I really like Broderick. He just seems like a real nice and humble guy. Not rockstar acting at all.

Strange, I get the impression he's a colossal prick.
I've never met him, so I can't say why I think that. I guess he must remind me of someone who owes me money...
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!
