  • Tommy Victor (PRONG) the ad SEZ it's a Surfcaster....

But I'm dead-sure that's an LSX. Anyone noticed that before?

(I did try to search "Tommy Victor" but nothing relevant came up)

I just find it amusing that they couldn't even get the equipment straight for the promo shot. I'd always heard that Tommy played a surfcaster, but I've never seen a picture of him with one. This ad caught my attention on the 'Bay, so I thought I'd check it out- No surfcaster! I had one of those LSXIII guitars for a while, and I'm sad that I traded it.

Tommy and Mike (Kirkland) both worked at CBGB's. So I'd see Prong all the time back in the day. Tommy used to play Model Series Charvels during the Force Fed / Beg to Differ era. Then he got a little 'weird' or 'experimental' with his sound/music - I guess that happens when you move to L.A. So he started to play Surfcasters as well. Beg to Differ is still one of my favorites.

That isn't an ad. "The Load Out" was a feature column that "Guitar for the Practicing Musician" magazine did for awhile. I have that issue stored at my parent's house. Next time I visit them, I'll try to look it up. I remember the truss rod cover with model name being legible, but I can't remember what it said. By the way, from my recollection, "The Load Out" was inaccurate a lot of the time.

I checked it out and yep, the truss rod cover clearly indicates it's an LSX III.

BTW, that's in the August 1994 issue of Guitar for the Practicing Musician.
