Please do, Al's first four solo albums (Land of The Midnight Sun, Elegant Gypsy, Casino, Splendido Hotel) are absolute masterpieces. After the first time I listened to Elegant Gypsy (which was recorded in '77) which started with the amazing "Flight Over Rio" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Siq2qkINyPY ...most "shred guitar" music seemed kindergarden stuff in comparison. Fast soloing is one thing but such complex rhythmic and harmonic content is totally missing in most guitar albums.
And of course we can't forge Return to Forever where Al was part of the "classic" lineup and recorded 3 albums with them. Some of the craziest stuff I've ever heard.

What's funny is that a lot of progy technical rock and metal music since the 80's has stolen more from latin flavoured jazz fusion (mostly from Al and RTF) than from classic prog rock. Bands from Tool to ultra fast extreme metal. But most of the modern players aren't even aware where that stuff came from in the first place.

          Well yes,
          Paco has the biggest dick
          Paco gets all the women
          Paco plays the best
Paco rules more than Juan Carlos
          etc.

It's the same as if I go to an art exhibition and proclaim "Hey, that cat is very good but he's no Delacroix"
          What's the point?
