Not at all, Bill. I challenged him to back up what he said and he did.
A few of the bands listed I have in my library, but many I have never heard of. I am always happy to investigate new metal. And even happier when I find something good. Ron just recently turned me on to Hirax, and I'm digging them. I'm going to begin looking into the bands VitG listed.
VitaminG, thanks for actually knowing the music, and not being just someone who runs at the mouth. Much respect to you. I for one am very thankful for your effort in trying to show me some of the quality, because believe me--I have gone through a lot of quantity to find the (very few) bands that I truly enjoy listening to.
As for what I am looking for...I love good music...good riffs...I find that in a lot of bands, but then they screw it up by getting someone with no talent to burp nonsense over the riffage. What a waste. I love Metallica. I really like James' voice (pre-St. Anger anyway). I think Dio was my all-time favorite vocalist. I like the cadence to Draiman's style, although most of it is starting to sound the same as all his other songs. I like songs with gnarl to the vocals like Mustaine & Hetfield, I like the operatic singing of RJD, I even like me some good ol' nasally Axl Rose sometimes...and most everything else between. I just hate the "herniated troll taking a crap" grunt type screaming that every single band seems to do now. My son likes to listen to metal too, but I can't stand 98% of what he listens to...and it's all because of the vocals. They all sound the same. From one song to the next, even from one band to the next. It's disheartening. VitaminG's post above has given me new hope that maybe good metal isn't dead after all.
