That's true, a lot of the players on TMS have been disappointing, including the 3 you mention. The ones that stand out, off the top of my head, were John5, Gilbert, and Sheehan. John5 impressed me enough to want to check out his solo stuff.

Ive always loved Def Leppard, it's just been very disappointing from 'Slang' onwards. The odd semi-reasonable song but mostly piss poor efforts.
'On Through....' to 'Retroactive' are all outstanding. I'm also a big Phil fanboy.

I like the first 3 def leppard records, dont know if phil played on the pyro record or not. After that the bands sound changed, not necessarily bad but not my preference. I do like phils work with Girl they were a little more raw and were playing some la guns songs that ended up on later records.

As for their sound changing, it was mostly to do with Rick Allen's accident, a drummer losing an arm is a bit of a pain in the butt.
They had started Hysteria then Rick crashes his car, gets...um....hurt, & they had to start it all again.

I forgot about Sheehan, he was good! I didn't see Gilbert but I couldn't imagine him not smoking, he is great at improv. I'll have to look for Gilbert's appearance when they put it up on VH1.com

Yeah, Steve was the heart and soul of the band and they haven't been the same since he died. Viv Campbell has done nothing of much note since he joined. I still dig Phil's playing though. Hysteria is fucking PERFECT in every way (apart from "Love and Affection" but that didnt fit on my copied cassette when I was a teenager getting into them, so it doesnt really feel a part of the album for me anyway).

I dont care if they are gay, and they DO for a fact chase trends in a sad, desperate attempt to recapture the glory days (money I mean) but I still fuckin dig them, and live they fuckin ROCK.
I'll listen to Burzum, then stick on some Nile, then put on the Adrenalize album and it's all good.

I don't know what to think of Phil. But I can't stand the whole digital sound they have. I truly hate the fx they use
