I've been dating this girl and wondering what the best way to get her into good music would be. I don't think she'd go for it if I just threw in Hallowed be thy name, so I need to find a way to work her up to it. Rid likes country music and is good with southern rock, so I figure I'll introduce her to the outlaws soon, but where do I go from there? VH or def lep to get her used to the heavy sound? I need something chugga chugga but not too heavy to get her there I think, not sure. What would be yalls roadmap to go from country to Maiden and beyond? By beyond I mean just good 80s metal, since that's as far as I go

My wife of 22 years was into INXS, The Cars, Huey Lewis, Foreigner, Journey and the like when we first met. The hardest she would listen to was VH. I was a metalhead. If I recall correctly, one of our first 5 dates was taking her to see Metallica on the Justice Tour with Queensryche as opener...killer. She was way out of her comfort level, but enjoyed the show. She even wanted to go down front...She was a keeper. Over the past 22 years, she's gotten more into my tunes, and I've gotten into some of the easier stuff she likes. It's a give and take thing. I saw the last Foreigner Journey show that came through here, and she's going with me to Maiden in August. She grew up listening to John Denver, and always loved his music...I took her to see him live. While I'm not a big fan, the dude could play the hell outta that acoustic guitar.
You shouldn't want to change a person outright, but find the middle ground, and expand out a little in each direction over time. Hell, my wife even sings along with Megadeth at times on the XM without even knowing it's Megadeth.

Late-Ozzy Sabbath like She's Gone and You Won't Change Me, and It's Alright, if you can stand Bill Ward's singing
Badlands, SRV, let her hear the opening bass riff of Peace Sells, then sing her the lyrics as if you're Dave singing them to herI want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

My wife's into dance music, mostly Latin disco. I gave up a long time ago and actually kinda appreciate that she has her thing and I've got mine. Having said that she has fun at rock shows and would probably dig the music after the show too if we went more often. I sort of have to manipulate her into going by making it into a dinner date and telling her she should put together an outfit. I've found she loves anything that requires getting an outfit together for. Umm.. Jackyl?

Maybe hit her up with some songs with powerful lyrics.
What women wouldn't melt to the heartfelt poetry of the Scorpions "Another Piece of Meat"?
Or the blatantly obvious masterpiece from Steel Panther "It Won't Suck Itself"?
Let me know how these suggestions go over.

Just take turns playing the music you want to play. Maybe one of the reasons she likes you is because you're different. After a while she'll start liking some of it and she'll probably be more than willing to tell you what she likes and doesn't. If you're relaxed and having fun listening to your music will probably get her into it faster than you trying to pick and chose what she listens to to change her. Just a thought... :P
My wife has always hated metal, but with my son & I listening to it, she's slowly coming around. She was asking for a good Iron Maiden album for in her car a while back.Hail yesterday

Yeah, after years of hearing it, my mom sometimes asks to hear Run to the Hills
In response to the don't try to change her posts, its not like I'm trying to make her anything different. She doesn't really know 80s metal, so I'm just trying to think of the best way to present it to herLast edited by thebigz; 07-13-2012, 01:46 PM.

Maybe start with some D.R.I ,Morbid Angel or Slayer ........... kidding man let her choose whenever she wants to listen to your music.....(you could be playing some AC DC Def Leppard and other melodic stuff when you are with her, also some Metallica like Nothing Else Matters , Fade to Black the first minutes of One and Gary Moore)
