  • Steve Stevens Jam Play On Line Lessons!

Great on line lessons from the guitar legend Steve Stevens. Played on his Suhr Modern Josie graphic guitar and through a Fractal Axe Fx Ultra he really thoroughly explains the concepts and supplies his usual killer backing tracks.
Lot's of great tips here. Josie told me Steve was working on this back in May, but I didn't know for who or where.
    Enjoy, SS awesome forever!!

I watched the first 20 seconds. All those licks are the kind I don't want to play. I don't want to sound like that generic guy at Guitar Center, even if I do suck more than him.

But, Steve Stevens is an amazing guitarist.

Steve Stevens was hitting on my wife at his Atomic Playboys show, but I was hitting on Steve. Both are cute and tiny..then and now.

Note to self: Emerald LOVES Steve Stevens.

Yes! I kind of noticed every thread Emerald starts is about Steve Stevens.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

Kinda like because of any rock stah type person he is someone whom I know. We have been talking over the net for years, I couldn't really get to talk to Gary Moore. I would start threads about him too and I have and I have lots of stories to tell about his last tour and how I helped make it happen, ect.
For now I mostly post about Steve, but lately since May, I speak with Josie all the time via e-mail, how rough is that!! She is his manager.
Steve knows my admiration for him and it is a healthy manly admiration I have for Steve.
My wife loves his playing especially his flamenco styles.
I support the guitarists I admire and did the same for Gary Moore and Yngwie. Steve is the only one who I am in touch with. And I am not done with SS projects yet either. I am more than thrilled by his success as it couldn't happen to a nicer more down to earth real guy.
How can you not LOVE Steve Stevens, he is my guitar hero and the coolest musician I have ever met and his wife Josie is an absolute sweetheart, seriously.
So yes 99.9999% of Emerald's posts will be SS related.
If you want to read my Yngwie stuff check out Metropoulos Amps forum where I have been the longest and have like 6 billion posts. I am yngwie308 over there. When I first joined Metro forum I took on the whole Van Halen section saying VH
hadn't done anything since 1984, ect.
I had major warfare but it was true. Ed is playing better now, even people I know who know him say the same thing..so. http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16626
That dickhead St. August locked all my threads when he was a mod and deleted like hundreds of my posts, like a Hendrix section and a Malmsteen section, this led to the direct creation of the Artists section over there

Check out The Les Paul Forum and My Les Paul Forum where I am also Emerald search my posts and you will find 99% Gary Moore. I am on about 10 different forums at least not all the time lately. ect.

Agreed. Steve is in a class by himself. What's he up to these days? Any more solo
stuff coming, or how 'bout some more Billy Idol stuff?

Do you have any Hamer SS guitars? I've got a beat-up SS1
and 2 SS IIs, one of which is virtually showroom condition...

Yes Lefty, many moons ago I had an SS-2 briefly. I have a Hamer Chapparal 1987 Custom with a Jim O'Connor Ice Pearl Snakeskin graphic and a custom built Hamer SS-3, the white.black as it's called as Steve uses in the Atomic Playboy's and the Dirty Diana Live clip, here are some albums, including my two SS-80 Washburns that were built for Steve"

get into production, or is yours a prototype?

Lefty, thanks no the Hamer bolt on necked SS-3 as it was was never made for 'production' only made for SS himself. I can guess there were about maybe 6 or so made as a rough estimate. I know of the where abouts of at least three currently.
The eventual production Hamer was called a Centura and didn't last very long and was significantly different than the SS-3's personally built for Steve.
Mine isn't actually a Hamer at all, well the control pot is from a Centura and the case is an original Hamer but mine is a replica, a tribute guitar if you will and was built from exact measurements of the real guitars.
Three of the surviving Hamer SS-3's I know the owners including the 'real' white/black as it's called.
This was built by the amazing Matt Lee Phillips late of Texas and who now has relocated to Los Angeles. His company is called Bunkman Guitars and he builds all his guitars completely by hand, no CNC.
My Hamer has a unfinished maple cap neck with a flame maple fingerboard as the original. Mine also has the exact EB MM EVH asymmetrical neck profile as well, something that wasn't available in 1988. Also the Floyd Rose R2 nut is top mounted for added strength, not mounted from the rear as on the original. Here is Matt's web site and he has built the most amazing SS Washburn replicas both SS-80 and SS-100's that you would ever find. Only somebody like myself would be able to tell one from an original.
But that isn't Matt's purpose with those, he loves them as I do and there were not many USA model built, very rare.
http://www.bunkmanguitars.com/ now in LA not Texas!

I respect your opinion. Remember though Steve is Steve. He neither is a show off or acts like a rockstah. This is the real Steve. He has played and recorded some of the absolute most killer Charvel/Marshall plexi tones ever.
That Suhr Modern has Aldrich pickups fitted and he is using a Fractal Axe Fx 2.
I believe the paid lessons part is more dynamic as he shows 4 actual Idol songs.
I would have liked to have seen some of the Atomic Playboys material. I know why there isn't too much of the VNB material ...lol but remember SS is loyal to Billy and they complement each other.
SS has been working his ass off this whole year, endless touring with what originated as the Camp Freddy band and expanded to include G n' R members, Glenn Hughes, Gene Simmons, Seb Bach.
So he has been spread thin and he just looked tired to me thats all.
Steve takes an incredible amount of time with his fans and really appreciates them. I can attest to this first hand and to a level that might actually really surprise you.
Compared to lesson videos I have like from Yngwie for example, he's all attitude and actually plays quite sloppily for him and didn't do any retakes, plus the 'slow' parts are still 1300bpm LOL.
If he had his new Friedman SS-100 amp, based on the two channel Marsha he has been touring for two years with a live 4X12" miked up in the studio, I think you would find the tone more dynamic.
Axe Fx's aren't for everyone. Steve Vai uses his for effects live now.
Remember it's just a teaser free clip btw.
Last when I saw him live October 2011 and met him his tone was a monster.

Sure this was 1993 but kicks ass:
