Bill, as I sit here and read your post while I am watching Metallic Live....I realize we are brothers of metal...we may not always agree on the exact circumstances but we both love rock and metal..........I think you have an edge on me in total knowledge I am only 40 but I am trying.........I love you and your knowledge but I am not yet ready to stick my finger or allow you to stick you finger in my butthole...even in a non-gay way... oh btw glad to see someone else giving props to Steve Stevens....many think he is a poser because of dirty diana and top gun...you know "fly into the danger zone!" but that fucker has awesome tone.......MM

I'd go for a Criss Olivia tone, a Metallica MOP tone, an Iron Maiden tone, and an AC/DC tone.

Anybody that used Gibson P90's through a driven Marshall. THAT tone is pure gold!

I'm sick to my stomach that I didn't mention Gary Moore, considering he should really be at the top of my list.

Off the top of my head right now, my favorite tones...

Gary Holt from Exodus, especially on the Force of Habit album.
                      Anything from Mercyful Fate.
                      Brad Gillis on Ozzy's SOTD.
                      COC - Blind.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Metallica's tone on helpless, the small hours, ect. Is perfect. Scott Ian has an amazing rythnm tone. Tool's guitarist has good tone as well, jason becker too.
I want a guitar made of ALL abalone. That would be badass. All shellfish should die for my shreddage delight.

there's just too many for me to list, i could write for hours, hell for days about the tons of players who's tone is simply remarkable,
but most of them are not predominantly metal players so to speak, I'm 47, and i like everything from jazz, the Motown
session players, all the way up the the ladder to the hardest of rock and everything in between.
For example- I love Elliot Easton's tone and playing, but on this board, he does not apply. I listen to everything,
although the thread idea is great, it's too vast for me.
Metal Maniac, I must inform you that it is a board custom to get finger blasted by Bill. There's an "inner circle" on this board, haaa! more like inner brown circle in this case, and although never admitted, many have had this done and become brothers, I of course was given a pass on the ordeal, but I can smell Bill's finger
in cleveland all the way out here in huntington beach haa haaa!!!
Not helping the situation since 1965!
