Let me start off by saying that the guitar work Jake did with Ozzy is some of my favorite stuff of all time.
Although Jake claimed he hated that stuff... he sure played it good.
My guess.. and this is only a guess.. is that he didn't write it. He performed it. Thats why he didn't like it.
I am sure that Ozzy had and still has a slew of writers who "help out" on lots of the writing and arranging.
With that said... Robin Zander from Cheap Trick and a replacement singer? Why is Jake looking for a singer who could pull off Ozzy when he hated those songs and hated playing them live? Hmmm....
I am a little bitter because when Randy died I auditioned for Ozzy in NY and was called back for a second audition. They gave the gig to Brad Gillis and hired Jake when the tour was over. That should have been my gig after that tour or I should have at least got a shot at it. I will tell you that at that exact point in time I wasn't as innovative as Brad Gillis with his bar technique but I was a better player than Jake. For the last 20 or so years Jake has been an average blues based noodler and the bands and songs he has been involved with for the last 10 or so years are just aweful. Yuck. Currently one of the bands I am in which is really popular up in Connecticut does Bark at the Moon. Its our show stopper. We promote it as being an exact reproduction of the song live with the fact that I auditioned for Ozzy. Yea.. I know.. its marketing hype but it does put alot more people in the club. We always end our first set with it. I love the guitar work in that song. Sometimes I feel like I should have been the one who originally recorded it!

I prefer Jake's contributions in Badlands. His tone was far better, the songs were structured better and he is outright playing his ass off. Being a fan, I am happy to hear he's doing some music. Let's go Jake!

I thought Bob Daisley said that him and Jake wrote Bark at the Moon.

BD. There were complicated situations for Jake E. Lee and me at the time regarding publishing contracts and song registration so we agreed to do a 'buy out', that is, we were paid a lump sum for our contributions both for playing and writing. I co-wrote the music with Jake and I wrote all the lyrics with the exception of a line or word or two from Ozzy. Jake and I couldn't be credited for the writing for that reason, although we did get our performance credits. It was very frustrating to put so much work into a recording and then see someone else take all the credit for the writing but that's what we agreed to so there's not a lot we can do now. Besides, with that lot, even without doing a 'buy out' there was never ever any guarantee that you'd be credited properly and accurately anyway. The one thing that stands out in my mind from when the record was first released is an interview Ozzy did with the magazine 'International Musician'. When asked how he'd written all those songs alone he told them that he'd done it on a piano using one hand. I wonder where the other hand was.

Thanks for the response. Like I said.. I wasn't sure if he wrote much and because he didn't like playing it I assumed he probably didn't write it. I saw many video's of Jake back in the day and saw Ozzy live a few times with Jake. They were great. Jake was great. The sound was great although a little too much effects.. especially flange.
I will say that when listening to the entire Bark at the Moon album, it certainly sounds like Ozzy wrote it. The guitar solo's on the other hand don't sound like Randy so I guess I could believe that Jake wrote them. The only reason I would think he didn't is because he didn't enjoy playing them which means maybe he came up with some snipits in the studio but the solo's were rewritten several times by Ozzy and his writing crew and eventually became less of Jakes compositions.

Thanks bro. Back in the 80's I was in a band called Cage and our manager was best friends with Steven Tyler. Steve was not in Aerosmith at the time. He left of got thrown out and was actually working for a moving company for a while. I am pretty sure this was around when Night in the Ruts came out. We used to advertise on our gig flyers that our manager was best friends with him and that he might be showing up at our gigs. It was a gaurantee to bring about 30-40 hot spandex wearing girls every gig! He never showed up once and many years later we found out that our manager was just a SUPER FAN of Tylers and only met him a few times at shows to get his picture taken with him. We weren't even sure if Steven actually worked for a moving company at the time but I do know he was messed up on drugs.

Who knows. That whole situation is massively convoluted.

I remember an article "back in the day" that Jake said the BATM riff was actually a derivative of something he wrote while in Ratt... I agree, though, Oz does surround himself with good writers...
Bon Jovi is like a frozen Coca Cola.. It's cool, it's crunchy, but when all is said and done it is still pop....

It shits me to see any footage of any artist taken from a mobile phone etc then posted on spewtube... It never does any artist any justice whatsoever.

...and that promo clip that TJ posted, fuck! Are they trying to sabotage that band? 90 DB straight into a vid cam mic, yeah, that`s real pro audio is`nt it?

I`m not a fan or anything but fuck, give the guy half a chance... I also think that anyone whose `let themselves slip` can get their playing back to where it once used to be. It`s all internalised for the player. It just takes the proper effort to bring it back out.

Loved Badlands. I would love to see Jake do more of that dirty blues style music. I'm not as interested in seeing him covering his Ozzy material. I dug it, but I've already seen him play it live with the man himself, back when Ozzy didn't need a teleprompter to give him the lyrics.

Just goes to show you Bill, most fans are deaf and dumb. That was horrible and its so obvious that they pieced it together in the studio. 100 takes may be a generous estimate. And to think... all those takes and it still sounds like canned ass. Lousy tone, way too much effects, sloppy bends and vibrato and probably one of the most uncreative piles of shit I have heard in a while. Aldo Nova blows Jake away on this one! If Jake ever comes to Connecticut I am available to give him guitar lessons because he sure needs some. Just aweful.
