Let me start off by saying that the guitar work Jake did with Ozzy is some of my favorite stuff of all time.
Although Jake claimed he hated that stuff... he sure played it good.
My guess.. and this is only a guess.. is that he didn't write it. He performed it. Thats why he didn't like it.
I am sure that Ozzy had and still has a slew of writers who "help out" on lots of the writing and arranging.
With that said... Robin Zander from Cheap Trick and a replacement singer? Why is Jake looking for a singer who could pull off Ozzy when he hated those songs and hated playing them live? Hmmm....
I am a little bitter because when Randy died I auditioned for Ozzy in NY and was called back for a second audition. They gave the gig to Brad Gillis and hired Jake when the tour was over. That should have been my gig after that tour or I should have at least got a shot at it. I will tell you that at that exact point in time I wasn't as innovative as Brad Gillis with his bar technique but I was a better player than Jake. For the last 20 or so years Jake has been an average blues based noodler and the bands and songs he has been involved with for the last 10 or so years are just aweful. Yuck. Currently one of the bands I am in which is really popular up in Connecticut does Bark at the Moon. Its our show stopper. We promote it as being an exact reproduction of the song live with the fact that I auditioned for Ozzy. Yea.. I know.. its marketing hype but it does put alot more people in the club. We always end our first set with it. I love the guitar work in that song. Sometimes I feel like I should have been the one who originally recorded it!
