Saw a 3/4 reunited SK (orig bass player left shortly after reforming the band) @ Viper Room. Went on at 10-ish and played for about 90 minutes, playing material from the first two albums plus "Dear Prudence". A very good show! Matt's vocals were good considering he's 40+, and he is a charismatic performer. He talked/joked with the crowd in between songs - the crowd responded well. Anyways, about Jason's gear: Schecter tele-shaped guitar, dual hummers, string-through bridge. He mentioned that they sent him that guitar and that he wanted fret inlays or dots on the neck to see where he was playing. He used this guitar the whole night - no back-ups. (I wanted to see that old white ESP he used to have but, oh well.) He would just tune down the low E for the Dropped D songs. Easier then switching guitars all night, huh? He was stage right but his Marshall half-stack was next to the bassist Chris's rig, stage left. It sounded like he was going through the house PA (I'm guessing - I don't know that much about FOH mixing and stuff...) His overall tone was just a bit muddy but not ridiculous. I could hear the chords distinctly. The full band mix was decent. When he would go into solo, it always sounded quiet at first and then I could hear the level come up a bit. And sometimes the level didn't come up that much. Sucks because I wanted to hear his solos crystal clear and they were a bit subdued on a few of the songs. Many of his solos are on the neck pickup. BUT, he ripped. He pulled off all of his licks like I expected and switched his solos up a bit. Only got a brief glimpse of his floor rig after the show. Didn't see any pedals (he was already packing up his gear when I peaked in).
This was the first time I saw SK, I missed them 20+ years ago. Glad I went, glad they put it back together.
