Uli is my one guitar GOD that I have not seen live. Schenker, Gary Moore, and Vandenberg are the ones that I have seen and are my must see. Uli is the one I MUST see and hear live before my life can be complete. As I have stated, very rarely do we get to see talented musicians down here in Florida - only the remnants of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and whatever other southern rock leftovers are available.

ego. simply put, the singer is the de-facto front man. yngwie's ego can't allow that to happen....

A lot of people don't get it, but it's not ego, he's just unwilling to compromise, period. Yngwie is not a band, he's a solo artist who hires musicians to play his music.

Let's see... he writes every song, all the guitar parts (obviously), the bass parts, the drum parts, keyboard parts, the vocal melodies, and the lyrics. He records in his own studio, and now releases on his own label. He did the initial work on all his guitars, scalloping the necks, reshaping nuts, tweaking the electronics and even designed and worked on the development of his own YJM pickups in recent years. There's also his obsession with his amps and speakers. He has played on the same basic setup since he was a teen, finding ways to improve on what he feels is the best equipment for his sound.

Even if it were ego, fuck, the guy deserves the limelight. How many people have completely changed rock guitar playing forever? I'm talking huge strides here, plenty of players have made their mark for sure, but only a handful can say they turned it all upside down :

I think Evol is being "cynical" with his reply...

But, we can give credit to Hammett and his team to have brought "metal" to some kind of mainstream acceptance and at the same time, many folks out there were influenced in some ways by him/them... In all those years, Hammett's name has sold many guitars for ESP.

Hammett owes everything to James anyhow. He basically comes in plays some nervous sounding meedly-meedly wah crap over the section they designate for him and that's it. Nothing he has ever played or will ever play can even compare to the game-changing guys.

And really you have to examine what's happened since Yngwie came out, no one else has come along that has made that kind of impact since. I always wonder when the next really GREAT game changing guitarist will come along and turn everyone on their head, but it has yet to happen. I guess in smaller roles since there have been guys like Satriani and Vai, who have contributed some unique things, but most of that is phrasing, and I guess Vai did give us the 7 string, so there's that.

I've only seen him live once, I believe during the Trilogy tour at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. For some reason he never seems to come to Vancouver. ( When I'm paying attention at least... )

Like his music or not, he puts on a great rock show live, all while playing difficult music.

He opened for Dio at the Pacific Coliseum in 1985. Marching Out Tour with Mark Boals on vocals.

Ah, I missed that show for some reason. Unless it was the Last in Line tour, which I think is the Dio show I saw. I know Viv was on guitar still.

The memory is foggy for concerts back then, I was usually having a few drinks before the shows and then was too busy looking at the girls. Plus it was a freaking long time ago haha.
