This has always been one of my favorite guitars. It made it's first appearance on the backside cover of the "Soldiers Under Command" album in 1985. I'd like to build my own replica of this guitar but it's impossible to find any specs or history on it. I don't even know if this body was actually a production body or something that was custom built for Oz. Wayne Guitars built a signature model several years ago and GMW are also offering a slightly tweaked version of this...but I'm thinking of building my own version to match his original Charvel model. Does anyone know the origin of the body and/or neck? Would this be impossible to replicate? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There were no production Charvel bodies at that time. While they did do Explorers, Vs, and Strats regularly, the pointy Explorer would have been a completely custom design. Gibson did have a Destroyer model which was similar, but had a rounded notch near the bottom rear. Not sure which came first, though.
Looking at it, you could easily carve up a Warmoth Explorer body to replicate it.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I have a 1992 USA white RR that is patiently waiting a Stryper refin as well. The stock electronics already nail the tone.
Funny thing is I was going through the closet and found my old t-shirt from seeing them at Santa Monica back in very early 1987. Great concert.

Maybe this solves the mystery. This was a very old article printed in his spin off band's newsletter (Sin Dizzy) over a decade ago. He references a "Karl Sandoval creation" and a Mighty Might body with a Charvel neck. Maybe the guitar started life as a regular explorer pictured here, and then was modified into the "pointy explorer" a few years later???

Are you suggesting that the "Sandoval Creation" was a completely separate axe and had nothing to do with the Pointy??? Just trying to make sure I understand what you meant. Thanks!E = Fb
