No, his tone is great, if you're not familiar with Obituary you should check out their first two albums. They were metalling just fine.

Yes, he turns his tone knob down, too.

WHAT? No! You do not tone in the metals!
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I know, I never touch my tone controls, and I've got a couple guitars without them, but part of that dark Obituary sound is to roll the tone knob back.

I remember reading years ago, probably around the time they first came out that John Tardy didn't even sing lyrics, he just made noises. I've definitely heard him singing words to things like "I Don't Care", so is there any truth to that?

I'll have to pull out my copy of Choosing Death but I remember reading in there that Tardy did make-up some of the lyrics (noises) in parts of the tracks off of Slowly We Rot. That's also something I've heard about Lord Worm and the None So Vile album, supposedly he was drunk during the vocal recordings and just made stuff up on the spot on some of the songs.

Ha, Cryptopsy's vocals do just sound like someone puking to me, I could not get into them at all, it sounded fucking stupid. I've been meaning to read that book for a while, is it any good? I LOVED the black metal book, can't remember the name now, probably Lords of Chaos or something, although it was pretty disturbing. They were all fucking mental!

Hahahaha Yeah, I actually really dig the music on that album but those vocals just kill it for me. I highly recommend reading that book, really good stuff in there covering death metal with some cool stories about Death, Morbid Angel, and a lot of the classic death metal and grindcore bands. Lords Of Chaos was a wild read, another good one from that same publishing house is Lucifer Rising that you might dig.

Cheers man, I'll have a look! Big fan of Crowley so Lucifer Rising should be fun.

Like volleyball, join me, slowly we rot? He sometimes skips some words and things blend together (plus a little delay thrown in there sometimes), so it's hard to tell with him.
