  • Seriously, that guy from Obituary

Why the fuck does he always play a Strat? Not only that, but he plays it slung lower than Steve Clark's Les Paul, it's fucking ridiculous!

I know we're all different when it comes to preferences in guitars but fuck me, a low slung strat for death metal just cannot be as much fun to play as a dinky or soloist or King V or Rhoads or even a fucking Les Paul, come on to fuck Obituary-dude!

Look, it's so low you can't even see it in the photo fer fuck sake.

And I know he's called Trevor Peres, I've been listening to them since the first album came out many years ago. Much respect to a legend, with horrible taste in guitars.

cuz that's the way he gets his sound. The Obituary sound is iconic and playing another guitar would ruin it. If you see them live, whenever the lead guitarist is resting and Trevor is the only one in the mix, it's like, "WOW that sounds like fucking OBITUARY." Then when the lead guitarist with his Jackson or ESP or whatever comes in, it's like, "meh, sounds like any other death metal tone." I saw them live in 2011 in a warehouse. This was right after Santolla got kicked out and they hadn't replaced him yet, so it was just Trevor on guitar. It sounded fucking AWESOME. Yeah, it sucks not getting to hear the solos, which are great, but whoever is doing lead for them should just try to copy Trevor's sound because it's so distinguished.

The 70s headstock is more unforgivable.

As far as the strat giving a signature tone- he's got a humbucker in there so if he's rhythm on bridge the guitar being a fender means nada. Just another super strat config.

He has the best pick guard resonation. That is how he gets the tone.

Why would you even care what he played after all its about the sound not what shape or brand of a guitar he plays.

He has always played a strat, (along with some other BC rich warlock, Ibanex superstrats etc)
              Strat > Rat > Marshall

              It works for him

              I like it

+1 I saw them in Melbourne as a four piece, it was badass. Also saw them as a five piece with Santolla, was badass also, Santolla had a reverse head King V

He's always been pictured with Strats, with both regular and large headstocks.

Some people here actually prefer strat type guitars.

The good news is, I spent hours listening to Obituary after reading this thread. They're the best.

I'm not familiar with Obituary but based on that pic, he probably sounds like Mark Knopfler or Buddy Holly. Clearly the wrong tone for metal. I'm with you, Martin. He's metalling wrong

You can't really metal wrong when playing a Strat (with a humbucker) through a Marshall JCM800 with a Rat distortion pedal!
