There have always been players better and younger than me. Wish I was as driven at 17 as I am at 47 but there's no going back.
Kid in the vid rips it up.
Any way you could possibly put more shit into your sig?

Before I clicked, I guessed it was him.

When I think of "kid" who rips on guitar and YouTube, this IS the kid I think of. There are many awesome teen players but his performance for the camera shows he is an entertainer as well. I bet he has support and encouragement of his parents. I remember the guys I grew up with who were awesome BMX racers, riding PK Rippers, Hutch, Redline had positive support by parents. Positive support at home can make the difference between raising a rebellious teen who makes noise with a guitar and a kid who is expressing himself in the fine arts.

Ha that was me in the 80's, wanted a Jackson soooo bad but had to settle for a Gibson which is now worth 4x-5x what I paid for it. Now I have a room full of Jacksons and have made use of todays learning technology but damn if we had you tube and tab sites, drum programs, etc back in the 80's.
Oh well at least we had REAL heavy metal!!!!!

That guy can play. I do feel that without all of the tools available today, I was able to really develop a good ear. I can see and hear many scale types and modes just from making so many mistakes trying to figure out what people were doing. I don't feel cheated at all by having to put in the crazy effort to learn.

He is definitely gifted. Time will tell if he is as creative in his own style as he is in his extraordinary ability to cop EVH's style.

Amazing how things have changed since the days of snail mail catalogs, Circus and MTV.
I'm 43 and for me it was seeing Mick's white Warlock in the Looks That Kill video - my parents bought me my first guitar that year for Christmas, an Ibanez Roadstar II. Circus...used to love that magazine back then - Circus and Hit Parader were my favorite magazines in those days - I've been meaning to buy some back issues on ebay for sentimental reasons, haven't seen one of those in years...

I wanted to be George Lynch in the 80's (still do lol), but no way could i afford an ESP or custom Charvel back then. Now, i'd rather own a Vigier Excaliber if i were to buy another superstrat.

Oh yeah. These fuggin' kids are killin' us. They're taking guitar to hell and back..like unleashed little demons. It's nice to see . Something I was always on a rant about when I joined here. I joined this place when Nu was still new. Not a solo to be heard. Because it was ALL TV, and nothing else. By the time kids got their hands on Guitar Hero and Youtube..it was a perfect storm. Now there's TOO many guitarists!!! mWTF???!!!

Kids are not Blues based. We were striving to be Eddie, George Lynch, Yngwie..ect. I blame Jeff Loomis...he's a dick! Not blues based at all..just pure WTF!!!??? That was Jeff and Nevermore's mission" in the 90's . "To bring the guitar solo back"..well, that happened. He should get alot of credit..I give it to him. I'm still a fanboy.

Jeff Loomis..if you see this. You're a dick!!! See, I told ya you were just as good as anyone. You thought I was crazy. We were both right!

                    Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

But most of them would rather play for free on the internet so that they can show their friends that they got 'likes', than they would get a band together and play live in front of people.

I saw an ad for a band seeking a guitar player ---
they were maxed out with 5,000 friends on facebook. They had all kinds of likes, hits, and followers.
But the band wasn't yet complete (hence the reason for looking for members). They haven't had a gig. And they wanted to rehearse via Skype.
Girls and money mean nothing to them.

I stared playing at age 5, and my grandfather taught me at first. Grandpa used to play with this guy named Jimmie Rodgers, who is known as the Singing Brakeman:

and my mom used to sing at The Opry when she was a teenager......so I guess it's in my bloodline to make music.

Played my first Charvel in 1982, some of the very first serialized production guitars. I rermember it VIVIDLY.....the one I wanted was $1200, and the tag said "NO TRADES< NO DISCOUNTS, $1200 cash" - it was more expensive than a new Les Paul or a new Stratocaster. Hot Rof flames with a single humbucker and a maple neck. that guitar has haunted me for my entire life, wish I could find it!

The only good thing about getting old, is that you can buy all the guitars you couldn't afford when you where a kid. The bad bit is trying to make the wife understand that its necessary to own at least 20 guitars. The worst part is when your 16 year son, not only has access to guitars you could only look at in guitar world, but can play them 100 times better than you ever could. Anyway i'm taking life one 80's Charvel at a time. And always remember, "no dear its not new, I've had that one for years".

I for one would be glad to see guitar music move away from blues. The other two notes make a big difference! I remember a time when rock guitarists seemed to be compelled to play blues, as if blues gave "legitimacy" or "credibility". What's so "legit" about blues, anyway?

I'm not knocking blues. I can enjoy blues well-played if I choose, but it's not my thing. Another odd thing I see in recent years is all the former rock and metal players, and bands, going "country". LOL
