hmm ... have not been following Vivian's career. What has he done besides Dio? I have the Riverdogs album and it definately is much different from his work with Dio. Outside of that I have no clue what he has done.
ahhh ... last album of their I bought was Retro Active ... may have to check out some of their more recent stuff. I was not overly impressed with Retro so I kind of stopped following them.
From allmusic:
he left Dio in March 1986 after the Sacred Heart U.S. tour, assembling a new project called Trinity along with drummer Pat Waller and bassist David Watson. In 1987, Vivian Campbell stepped into David Coverdale's Whitesnake, introducing Shadow King in 1990 with a live performance at London's Astoria theater. A self-titled album was released in 1991. A year later his guitar skills were requested by Def Leppard to replace Steve Clark
How long did he stay with whitesnake? i know the breakout album for whitesnake was actually all john sykes guitar work. Just curious if he wrote anything with whitesnake?
Vivian only toured in support for Whitesnake's self-titled album. The album itself was a large part of John Sykes, but Adrian Vandenberg did the solo for Here I Go Again. After the tour, Vivian went to Def Leppard and in stepped Vai.
I bought the Def Leppard X album not so long ago. I have to say, that Viv sounds great on the solos, but they don't let him play very often! **** commercialism. I t pisses me off that Def Leppard is still trying to be 'trendy'
As for Dio, I'd say Blackmore first. Then I have two equal guys Iommi with his melodic soloing and Viv.
And Yeah, Killing THe Dragon Rocks! Classic Dio! The guy is not mucch older than my grandpa, though. I wonder how sand is not tripping out of him? As we say
I don't know what gear he was using at the time, but I think the Riverdogs album he was on RAWKED. Killer tone, cool lines, and they had the good sense to mix him way up front
Yeah, I dug the Riverdogs, too. Met them when they played the Roxy, Viv was cool! Anybody got any pics of the 'Holy Diver' Charvel? The one that lit up? That was cool, too!
Vivian is my favorite. I met him @ GC in 1987, and he signed my model 1 and my hearing aid video. He had a smokin wife back then too.
