Hey guys, I've been a way for a long while and I just now am seeing this post. I had the Skull graphic done ( my avatar pic)and here is a few answers to some of the questions you guys asked. Some of this I heard right From Viv's mouth ...........

When he first sstarted playing in Dio he was using a Marshall Jcm 800 with a distortion box. He didn't say which one though. then around the time of the Last in Line, he started using Mesa Boogie. By the time he was with White Snake he was using Randall solid State amps and he said they played so loud that they were obnoxious at times.

He then had a whole Bradshaw rack system and that thing had a couple differnt Randall preamps as well as a some kind of Soldano in it which was used for his lead sound. a whle bunch of other stuff in the rack, I can't remember it all right now.

As for his guitars, I hear the LAst in Line cover Graphic was turned into the Black one with the Gold Sheilds on it. He also haad a Holy Diver cover that had a pointy headstock and a rosewood boaard instead of the maple strat head.

I don't know what ever happened to the one that has the graphic I had done. If I recall correctly , there were 2 of them and I only saw him use one Live 1 time and that was at the Spectrum, where Dio did The Special from the Spectrum Video. He used that for the entire show, EXcept during his solo which he used an aria pro II. I was at that show and he rocked!

I have a few really good pics of his Charvels if anyone wants to E-mail me. I don't know how to post them here.

Vivian has my utmost respect as a player...even though he's been largely 'neutered' by Def Leppard!

Goddamn....that solo for 'Rainbow in the Dark' is just perfect! One of my all-time favorite solos.

I read a interview where Vivian says the guitar with Last in line Graphic ended up being natural color body with cracked mirror pickguard.

I never saw him play that one. The first guitar I saw him with after the Charvels was the Nightswan, and then Tom Anderson Guitars.

Great old pictures, first time I've seen that cracked mirror one. Vivian used to have some serious balls as a player. He even talks down on that vein of music when he is questioned about his Dio days.

Also I am told that the first album was recorded with a Les Paul, no Charvel in sight then [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
