Got the new Dokken today. It's not stupendous but there's plenty of great playing by Jon Levin on it. He does sound a lot like Lynch but also sounds like Reb and Warren DeMaritni too.Anyway, on the inside back cover, the last statement on the lower right says "Jon Levin uses Charvel guitars and Fender accessories". He's one of us!

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
JF: What kind of gear do you use?
JL: As for as guitars I am using Charvel Guitars. Fender bought Charvel/Jackson and they have are now making the Charvel's exactly like they did in the early 80's. The quallity is unbelievable and the guys at Charvel have been great to me.

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
Its kinda weird without Lynch but Levin is a great guitarist and I'll definitely be buying the new cd. The new song clip I heard was great and its great to have a Charvel player in the band. Maybe other players will follow suit.

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
I give up, no more Dokken records for me...
I keep getting suckered in by the sound clips (all one that they put on dokken.net, now I know why). Don insists on singing like he's in a middle-eastern version of the Beatles/Enuff's Enuff, and quite honestly the songwriting sucks. Levin is jamming when he get's a chance, but it's painful before and after the solos.
I mean, who decided to put "The Last Goodbye" leading of the record (in fact, who decided to even put this useless song on the record). I almost fell asleep at the wheel listening to it, which ironically would have been my last goodbye.
Someone needs to kick Don outand get Pilson back to sing.
Combine this with the dissapointing Hagar version of VH, the lame-ass Velvet Revolver, and Brides of Destruction (what a sad joke) and it's no wonder rock 'n' roll is in such a sad place.
Where is the new, piss and vinegar youngbloods we need in rock 'n' roll?

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
And another thing...
Why is it when all these bands go out on tour, they're playing all the old stuff, the crowd is going nuts, then they get in the studio and write a whole bunch of garbagethat sounds nothing like the old stuff?
I just don't get it...

p.s. Yes Ron, someone pissed in my Wheaties, when I find out who it was, i'll let you know...

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
Wow, someone's a little cranky. I've only heard that one clip so I have no idea what the rest of the cd sounds like. I liked the clip although its different than the old stuff. I do agree that it makes no sense for a band to re-invent itself when the fans love the old material. Why can't they make an album as strong as Tooth and Nail again?? I don't get it either.

Re: Jon Levin Plays Charvel in Dokken
Getting off the Dokken subject a little.. I just bought the latest Jane's Addiction after years of being sucked in to current rock. I think Navarro's playing is killer and the writing and big sound are there. It's refreshing to buy something new, that's groovy, and has some real guitar playing in it. They're definitely not trying to fit in and sound like the run of the mill numetal.
