    WINDS

    Hey dudes, once in a while in my many travels of exploring new underground metal I come across a very special band or guitarist for that matter.

    I stumbled across a band called Winds , they have a couple of discs out but I just have their last "The Imaginary Direction Of Time"..on The End records.

    It's been on since I bought it four days ago...The music is very hard to describe but I'll try..

    The music is fused with "classical" using a string section and piano. The music is a bit progressive but not very aggressive . The vocals are not the highlight but fitting , very soft spoken clean vocals ...not unlike light moments of Opeth at times...but the main thing that caught my attention is guitarist Carl August Tidemann...this dude is great!...he doesn't "overplay" and has a very YJM / Uli quality about him ..his solos are commanding , accurate , and has impeccable feel.

    Any shredder would appreciate this ...no matter if you're into Powermetal , Black Metal , Death Metal ...Neo classical especially!!!

    I recommend anyone that loves great guitar playing in a very unique format to investigate this band immediately.

    I really dig these guys and I must buy their other releases NOW!

          I'm always up for new neoclassical or refreshing prog bands. So I'll give them a listen for sure.

                      nice catch Bill, thanks for letting us know. just downloaded "the reflection of I", definitely buying this.
                      I love the violins in the mix, gives me some flashbacks of My Dying Bride's greatness of the past...

                          Yeah the vocals don't do it justice ...they are not the worst vocals ...not "annoying" anyway.

                          Yeah, the strings and piano give it a Celestial Season , My Dying Bride vibe ...but not as heavy..

                          The guitarist is the thing I like most of this band...he can play!

                            yeah after listening to it for a while the vocals don't bug me that much.. it fits the music (:

                            anyone know what kind of axe he plays?

                              Have no clue ...but he can play it!

                              He reminds me a bit like Mike Wead at times especially on Edge Of Sanity's Crimson II.
