Re: Dimebag dropped by Washburn

Well I just looked thru their artist page, and their are tons of artisits listed there who dont endorse Deans, endorse another brand, or havent played Deans in years and years. Sammy Hagar, Rick Derringer, Nancy Wilson, the list just goes on. How sad is it that you have to make up an endorsement/artist list?..............

He used to play BC Rich guitars for a bit too (check out the vulgar display of power booklet). Imagine Dime using BC Rich

I'm not going to get into defending Dean guitars, but that page is just a tribute to players who play and/or played Deans through the years. I'll give you that, that it may imply endorsers, but it doesn't say that.
Honestly, Deans (to me) are such good guitars that I would still play one if Britney Spears was an endorser. For that matter (or logic) I should not play Jackson's anymore because all my favorite players have gone elsewhere? Rhetorical - no need to answer.

I think the whole thing is silly. Whoever plays a guitar does not influence MY buying of that guitar. It's kinda how Alexi Laiho trashes Jackson for not giving him more guitars after his got stolen. I would ask, why should I give you more guitars when you were stupid enough to let yours get jacked? And then he gets all pissed because they won't give him more! WTF? Like he's so great they're just supposed to give him guitars? I think guitar manufacturers waste alot of money on endorsements. Those free guitars they shell out could allow actual buyers to pay lower prices. I could be wrong in the economic sense, maybe who plays a guitar influences alot of people to buy those guitars. Not me though.
Check my Jackson themed Myspace page, hear some good metal, and check out a little shred fest by me.

The endorsement are there for 2 reasons: 1. They allow the companies to offer signature models, and 2. They bring in the sales to beginners who are impressed by that sort of thing.............

Signature models lure sales from pros as well. I can't tell you how many Fender guys want to see a David Gilmour signature Strat, which is nothing more than an EMG Gilmour pickup assembly in a '57 reissue Strat. They would pay hundreds more just to have the silly signature decal on the headstock.

Randall just recently released the new X2 Dimebag head. This must have been sudden because they would have never engineered a replacement for the Warhead if they had any idea that Darrel was leaving. At least I will finally be able to pick up one of those Warhead amps for next to nothing now that he has left Randall. I heard they sound like a$$ but I like the way they look.

yeah he did play alot of different guitar, but from what ive read the old Dean MLs are what he prefers. When washburn first started making his signature line I dont think Dean was even making guitars yet. he also has a collection of old MLs that do not tour or get used live. IIRC in an old interview he claimed to buy every old Dean ML he saw when he toured this was around the CFH era.

Jackson needs to get all the guys with last name Jackson.
Start with Jackson Family, then Samuel and Jessie and so on.
Nothing to do with playing guitar but popularity wins.

Serious note, get Grover Jackson back to Jackson.
That is something they should do too.

Re: Dimebag dropped by Washburn

Dean invented the ML in '76. When Washburn waved a monster sum of money in front of Dime to come to them in the early 90s, Washburn had to license the headstock and ML design from Dean to use for their Dime models.

BFM i think i should have made myself clearer i know Dean was making guitars in the 70's. but there was a time when Dean was not making guitars, when i believe it was thoroughbred music that had the rights to the Dean name?

Just to clarify some stuff.

To my understanding Alexi didn't really trash Jackson, he asked for them to make him two new guitars with similar specs as his old ones and they told him that the guitars wouldn't be available for a year or so. This was right after Fender had bought Jackson (so they were going through a little bit of a transitional period - they also were dropping a lot of their endorsee's). If you're a touring guitar player and you have a specific shape / spec guitar that you need then you need a quick replacement. ESP jumped up and made him an axe in about 3 or 4 months and he decided to go with them. Also I don't think he got the guitars for free, his main axe he bought from one of the dude's in Stone and I'm pretty sure he did the same with his other custom shop (he probably got it at cost).

Also, they were jacked from his band's practice space after he hid them. He didn't just leave them sitting out in front of a gig for anyone to take. Someone had come into the practice space and stolen them.

[/ QUOTE ]Jackson never GAVE Alexi a single guitar; he paid for them, at an artist's discount. His guitars were indeed hidden behind a couch in a locked rehearsal space, he took all reasonable care without sleeping with the guitars. Then he ordered 2 new guitars, but was told it'd take more than a year. That bugged him, but he still ordered the guitars. Then FMIC FENDER cancelled his orders. THAT's when he went with ESP, with a tour coming up, no guitars and Jackson blowing him off his choices were limited to ESP or nothing. You should learn the whole story before you draw conclusions about it. I agree with you that I don't choose guitars today based on who plays one, but I did buy my Les Paul based on Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck playing them back in the day. That young buyer market makes endorsements very lucrative for manufacturers and players. As for Dimebag, Dean good, Krank bad. Hope he didn't make a long term deal with Krank. He might be good for Peavey to get for a signature version of their XXL.

I didn't but 2 guitars that I liked BECAUSE they were sig models. I just didn't want people to look at me like I was a copying some guy or something (when I was giging).

Another cool thing about signature models is that there are some guitar players out there that actually have something to add to guitar building. Steve Vai has helped Ibanez design lots of stuff. He didn't just sign his name on a headstock and collect a check. I bet if it weren't for Scott Ian there wouldn't be a guitar from Jackson anything like the JJ1. Phil Collen's Jacksons are great guitars, and Jackson probably wouldn't make those quality guitars if it weren't for him. A lot of times artists ask for features that appeal to musicians. Hell, the best example, do you own a Rhoads V because Randy played one, or because they are awesome guitars(or maybe a bit of both)? And I would pay extra money to have a David Gilmour signature Strat, and for years I've thought about making my own. Ever since Pulse came out. Even though my favorite Strats are the '60's profile with the rosewood fretboard and Olympic White finishes.

And as for Damage Plan, I don't know how well they're doing.
