Re: Dimebag dropped by Washburn

I won't buy a guitar because someone plays it. I buy what I like. I think it's funny about the signature headstock thing because it was a Dean headstock anyway. What's he gonna be using for amps? I like Randall. Especially the ones with the preamp modules.

Dean should pick him back up.

My thoughts exactly.

He's back with Dean and playing through Krank amps now.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm... Krank amps are the worst pieces of poo I've had the misfortune to play through.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, well, Tonewise . . .Dimebag doesn't really care

I think its funny, he has some of the nastiest tone out there, but he has tons of signature gear to capture his tone!

Kranks are tube, aren't they? He never liked tube amps, said the distortion wasn't "hard" enough.

Hmmm... Lots of points being discussed.

-I don't think Washburn sales will decrease. I highly doubt Dime's guitars have sold well recently

-Artist models most certainly are a great way for guitar companies to lure buyers. Would ESP be where it is today without all of the endoresements they hand out?

-There are some outstanding artist model guitar and some real duds. I would not shell out for a ESP Kirk H. guitar, but I bought an EBMM Petrucci because of the way it was designed.

-I would also pay extra for a Dave Gilmour sig. strat.

The endorsement are there for 2 reasons: 1. They allow the companies to offer signature models, and 2. They bring in the sales to beginners who are impressed by that sort of thing.............

I couldn't have said that better myself (maybe a little more sarcastically, but not better)..

Very few signature models are innovative. Most are repackaged existing product with a coyuple of special features that sell for a significant upcharge.

Re: Dimebag dropped by Washburn

I just find many signature guitars bizarre: if it's a signature, surely it should be built to the same specs as the artist's guitars, so (for example) why is the ESP KH2 a bolt-on?
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

So Washuburn gets Scott Ian, keeps Nuno, Jennifer, John (from Shadows Fall) but drops Dime? Insane right, well he does have the worste tone and taste of the bunch.

[/ QUOTE ] i think it's because kh-2 relics weren't selling very well (they were bolt on + iirc a grand more) ?

Hmmm, I've owned a lot of signature guitars and I bought them because I was a huge fan of the artist AND because the options or aspects of those guitars appealed to me as a player. - Jem 7VWH
- a couple of Universes
- Fender SRV
- Washburn N4
- EVH II
- 4 Rhoads
- guess I can add Big Red
- Fender Yngwie
- Lynch Bengal (although I guess being a GMW, it aint really a sig series)
- Crossed Swords (same as above)

jon donais' sig looks neat, but its essentially an NX6 with a tone pot and i guess its either a set or neck through?

and hey lookie at that, they Discontinued the NX6 not too long ago...

and the KH-2 is bolt on because people don;t want to pay for around 3K for the neckthrough. Though ESP makes them for Drumcityguitarland occastionally. and the Relics sell decently enough.
