• All That Remains... (Gwar / Dying Fetus/ATR show)

Saw this band last nite (All That Remains)...they were really good. They sounded kinda like Shadows Fall etc. Like everyone else these days...all the new US bands are americanized versions of At the Gates, the Haunted, etc. it seems like, with the now obligatory clean/cookie vocal mixing and good technical riffing. Good guitar duo on this band, they spend a lot of time on parts. They are worth checking out. Gwar was Gwar. Dying Fetus was good, very tight, although there are other bands of that style that I like more. They were really good though, very driven. But the crowd just kinda stared at them, which really f*ckin' sucked. They deserved a serious pit. No such luck.

Heh I take it they are one of your faves?? Well here I am lumping bands together. I like straight up technical death metal more, less of a death/hardcore/grindcore type of thing. Not the same thing you will say. Bands I like more, not better ones. I had only good things to say about them anyway you gotta admit.

The Mock the Vote Tour will be here Nov. 13th. I've heard some clips of Dying Fetus and generally liked it. I'm not familiar with All That Remains so I can't comment on them. GWAR seals the deal though. On the other hand, a friend of mine is wanting to take a looooong journey to Chicago that day to see Cannibal Corpse. Decisions, decisions...

Hey Free you would probably like Dying Fetus better than ATR. Soon here also will be Suffocation/ Behemoth, Shadows Fall/the Haunted/Damageplan,Lamb of God/Fear Factory/COB, Megadeth/Exodus, Cradle of Filth among others. I will miss the Shadows Fall since I will be in Dallas that week.

The first album that All That Remains did (Behind Silence And Solitude) is great but I don't like the newer one that they just did. From These Wounds is a killer track! Their singer is a little weird though. I still haven't seen them live.

in that style definitely .

I like straight up technical death metal more - like what bands ? hate eternal style ? krisiun ? Deeds of flesh ? cryptopsy ?

I really like fast technical stuff but i also like a lil' bit groovier things (df, misery index, internal bleeding, pyrexia)

Misery Index will be with Suffocation when they are here.I will have to check them out. I know they are the old Dying Fetus members and whatnot. Haven't heard them.

I mean bands like Necrophagist, Quo Vadist, Cryptopsy, Martyr, Hate Eternal, Theory in Practice etc. Suffocation also really.

It was a good thing for a live show to have a more moshing grindcore influenced band like Dying Fetus on the bill, it's more fun sometimes, y'know...without all the abrupt stops and starts . You are right about that. I just wouldn't normally sit and listen to something like DF at home I guess. Anyway their show was wasted on the stupid crowd that was there.

I am trying to put together a band here finally...but it will be more like melodic/progressive death style (At the Gates, earlier Soilwork, Opeth, and so on) but we'll see. Depends who I find. This place ain't exactly musician heaven.

Hey Mark, Megadeth played here last night. Funny, I thought they died in a fiery plane crash shortly after Rust in Peace was released....

In all seriousness, I'm sure the venue they played was packed, Pop's is big but not that big. Lamb of God/Fear Factory and the rest will be here on Monday Nov. 8th so I'll miss that show also. I would like to see Lamb of God though just not with the other 3 bands.

It's cool you're looking to form a band. Good luck to you on that, I'm sure the music will kick ass.

Where was Megadeth playing? A karaoke bar or a high school lunch hour?? I wouldn't bother going to see Megadeth if they were playing in my backyard. I'd watch CSI or something instead. I came to the conclusion a decade or so ago that Dave Mustaine is the lamest ballfondler in metal. I guarantee he will be made/bent over soon on Queer Eye for the Washed Up Whiner with An ESP Signature Guitar. He's big in Japan though, y'know.

Isn't Fear Factory kinda numetal or something? Fans of the band flame away if I'm wrong, just wasn't sure.

Well I found a pretty good musician listing website here for metal so we'll see. I say melodic death style, but I don't want it sounding like a Maiden/neoclassical twin guitar thing with death vocals (In Flames etc). something heavier than that, more attitude.

When I'm in Dallas i think I'm there while slayer is in town, so that will make up for shadows fall etc.

hard to tell. they've been associated with Nu metal - they've got electronics and stuff - but there are definitely not some korn/linkin park f@gz - they can play.
Especially the drummer and the guitar/drums cooperation in their songs is awesome - raymond herrara is an awesome drummer.

A little bigger than a karaoke bar, maybe less in size than some high school lunch hours. I guess Fear Factory is some kind of Industrial/Death Metal hybrid or something. Not really sure if that describes them correctly.

I like ATR...and it's funny someone mentioned they sound like Shadows Fall...Phil Labonte (ATR singer) was Shadows Fall first singer (for those not in the know...LOL!)

Misery Index rules. I played a show with those guys and they delivered a KILLER performance. Very fast, very aggressive.
