They kick ass!

    Who agrees?

I also came to a conclusion about Evergrey. Will, at least the Recreation Day CD. It kinda blows.

I have come to the conclusion that I have no idea who either of these bands are.

Good to see you're digging it though.

Incantation is a Death Metal band that has used, thrownout, and recycled about a billion different musicians and lineups. They play Death Metal of the kick ass variety.

Evergrey is a cool but kinda annoying Prog Metal band. Excellent Musicianship, so-so song writing, at least on Recreation Day.

Thanks man. I'm not hip on the Death Metal thing at all. I really liked Carcass but I'm not sure that was Death Metal. That dude could play like a mother, though....Bill somebody. I had one of their albums from the early 90's and thought it was great.

Carcass was definitely death metal. If I understand correctly they started the whole goregrind trend in death metal. And yes, Bill Steer's playing is great.

              Probably The Infernal Storm.

I remember Ace saying that Blasphemy is really solid, so I'll get that one.

Thanks, I love the Heretic CD. Most people were disappointed with it for some reason.

I agree, Heretic is a great album. Very old school, and that was refreshing to me. Getting tired of all this Nu-Death crap.

What exactly do you mean by Nu-Death? Example?

Re: I\'ve come to a conclusion about Incantation.

i only heard about a division between bands like old school death metal ( deicide, vader, mostly Florida influenced bands) and new school death metal ( inspired by suffocation, all that NYDM style, basically death with strong nydm influences + some grind + hardcore stuff - dying fetus , skinless etc)

                    never heard of nu death

Re: I\'ve come to a conclusion about Incantation.

Infernal Storm is actually not one of my favorite albums. The last half of Blasphemy and all of Diabolical Conquest are my favorite moments of Incantation's playing. The songwriting in Incantation is what really sets it apart for me. Both of those pieces of music are both so dark, so oppresive, it's awesome. And the production, just the right blend of clarity and old-school analog darkness. Also Kyle's drumming just blows me away. He's not a uber-blaster, like Tony Laureano or Derek Roddy. He's quick, but not Axis pedals on your tip-toes, four inch snare hit quick. He hits those fuckin' drums HARD. And you can hear it in his playing, since he's not triggered.

When Incantation with Kyle is in their full-on blast, they sound like an unstoppable wave of pure brutish evil.

Incantation were also the first national death metal band that I interviewed for L.A. Metal, and the band and I have remained good friends ever since.

Here's a good example of Incantation with Kyle behind the kit:

i'll listen to Diabolical Conquest - the first song on that cd makes me hope it's a good album

Bill Steer also played in Napalm Death and now plays in a 70s rock style band called Firebird, which somewhat different to his work in Carcass.

                            Mmmmmmmm, Carcass, yuuummmmm.
