If you're a fan of old Iron Maiden, you gotta check this one out. Two discs, with the first disc being three live shows (81, 82, 83), with the second having a band documentary, rarities, etc... The 1981 show at the Rainbow is especially killer. The band absolutely rocks and they play some great stuff... "Phantom of the Opera", "Transylvania", and "Wrathchild". Check it out!

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
Vic & I were discussing that on the phone the other day. I remembering asking my dad for an Iron Maiden video back in about '82/83. Imagine my excitement when I unwrapped the Rainbow video on Xmas morning! Imagine my surprise when some scruffy black-haired headkicker was singing out front of my new favourite band instead of Bruce!
I did come to appreciate the Dianno era Maiden though. It's a great old show, and I was very pleased to see it released on DVD. Great setlist and my first foray into 'real' live metal. Hail yesterday

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
I'm looking forward to the next one in the series - Powerslave to Seventh Son tour (84 to 88/89), which takes me from being 11 to 15 or so......the defining era for my musical tastes - yep, I'm a total child of the 80's!Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
yeah it's a great DVD. i was kinda expecting "12 wasted years" with the added concert footage, but all the interviews with old members was pretty cool.
i'll tell you though, maiden is almost getting bad as KISS. but i don't care because maiden is 1000 times cooler!! GEAR:
some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!
some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!
and finally....
i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Early Maiden is my favorite. I got into them from the onset. I guess it was '81 or so.Scott

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
It was supposed to be released in Canada on November 23, but WalMart didn't have it that day. I will have to check elsewhere but I haven't had time to do any shopping lately. I definitely want to own it though, and I own four other Maiden videos so far. The trailers on the Maiden website look good.

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
Part two should be killer. I love the middle era Maiden, especially "Somewhere In Time" and "Seventh Son" but you guys knew that anyways. Iron Maiden at the height of their career.
Even if I bought it now, I wouldn't have time to watch it until finals are over and the Christmas holidays start. Gonna be a brutal set of exams this semester.

Re: Iron Maiden \"The Early Years\" DVD
Speaking of Maiden, I just watched bits of the "Raising Hell" performance on my computer. It was decent. The magic/horror tricks were pretty cool though. The host/magician dude cut off Davey's hands and played his guitar with Dave's hands strapped to his own arms, and also put Bruce Bruce into a torture chamber with spikes... perhaps an iron maiden as that would have been appropriate. Bruce coughed out a bunch of fake blood whilst impaled by the spikes.
Meanwhile, I am musing over this picture...
I know I've seen the video before, but I just never recalled the girl's Purgatory shirt...

I've got the Raising Hell vhs somewhere... gotta dig that up and watch it again soon. I just watched some live footage from the new dvd, specifically the NOTB tour "Beast on the Road"... Dave seems to play an Ibanez Destroyer quite a bit, as well as Adrian.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
