well i dont know about list price but you can get a new axis for alot less then the van halens went for new. those were like 1800 when they were new but the demand was more because van halen was at the height of thier popularity .there was a long waiting list to get one so that may have more to do with it than anything else. as far as the wolfgang/carina thing goes all i know is the music stores around here that carried them had a hard time selling them and they always ended up marking them down to clearence prices to sell them. i never could figure that out because they are really nice playing guitars. i think people just couldnt justify paying that much for a peavey and ed's name just doesnt mean that much anymore.

Fukk EVH. The only endorsement deal he can get now is from Jack Daniels.

i heard he got 110 $ from each 5150 peavey sold

now prepare for the "vintage , best sounding , original peavey 5150" auctions on ebay - not to mention the block letter ones seem to have a better rep and better 2nd hand market pricing

Anyone looking for a good deal, Musicians friend are now selling the 5150-2's and the original 5150 for $749.00. Looks like they are trying to get rid of them.

I wouldn't mind a 5150 combo, but they are too loud for my circumstances--I'm not in a band and even minimum volume on those damn things would be too much for my apartment. Nice sounding amps, though, especially for the price.

I'd say Peavey will do ok with the amps, as long they can continue to make clear that the 6505 is the same old amp under a new name. The 5150 seemed to establish itself well beyond the world of Eddie-worshippers. In fact, it's such a gain-monster that it doesn't even do the classic 'Brown sound', to my ears. More of an extreme metal thing, really.

The guitars, on the other hand, may be more of a problem. EBMM has done well with the Axis, but I suspect the Peavey reputation for guitars isn't sufficient to carry the design without an endorsement. The Wolfgang is too radical for the 'classic rock' guys, while being too plain and 'dorky' for the metal guys. I predict that it dies a slow death.

They do have a brutal distortion, i picked one up for the sake of having one for backup of my dual rec. At the price it was really a good deal. Besides i think i can always sell it off later for not much loss!
