Metal is metal and have lived my life by metal, i dont care if you can shred circles around Wes! My point being he is making good money playing in front of millions of people while you sit on your butt typing imature responses! You can go on all you want here i am done arguing, truly there is no arguing with the mentally challanged

PS, i feel sorry if you truly do have children, last thing we need is other people growing up with your attitude. Oh yeah open your eyes, you think people are not gonna take my opinion good going, i have been playing a very long time, own many guitars and can probaly do things with guitars you only dream of!

Great thread, and here I thought the JCF was getting a little mundane lately. It seemed to have lost some of its spark. Well to me anyhow.
I caught John Mayer on Austin City Limits quite a few months ago.He did some of his stuff (of course) and then played with Buddy Guy and did some stuff with Double Trouble.Quite a good player I was really surprised. He did some Stevie and Hendrix.I thought he played with feeling but lacking some in emotion.Does that make sense?

Gah!

In an attempt to stop this arguement and start a REAL one, I offer this:

I prefer the green Mint Chocolate chip ice cream with the shavings over the white kind with the choclolate chunks.

Don't get me wrong, I would have rather been up there bashing out some metal but there's maybe 1 or 2 clubs in the whole DC area where you can do that.

And Jaxx doesn't really count.

LOL! And Jaxx is the only place I can think of, I just said "1 or 2 places" in case there is somewhere else around here I haven't heard of.

Hey Noodles and Jwoods986, are you guys going to see Vai at the Birchmere? It's the day after the NC show and I'm thinking of driving up and seeing my folks that day and catching Vai again. It'd be cool to meet up.

Hell yeah! I keep checking Ticketmaster to see when they go on sale. I saw Vai on the last G3 and I can't wait to see him solo. His new album comes out 02/22 also. That would be cool to meet some JCFers! Let me know if you go.

Yeah, I'm up for meeting up at the Birchmere and getting a guitar lesson. I haven't seen Vai play in a really long time.

There is more than just Jaxx, but you have to look for it. We play out at Sharpshooter's in Manassas quite a bit, as well as East Coast in Woodbridge. Small gigs, but we're playing metal and they're gigs.

I'm considering stalking Vai for a few days

He's playing in Myrtle Beach, SC; Asheville, NC; Winston-Salem, NC; and finally in Alexandria, VA all within like a 6 day period. Road trip time!

I was addressing JGCable. Regarding Mayer, "rips" I suppose is subjective. He can, however, play well. He is a SRV fanatic and is able to cop his playing authentically. Whether or not that does anything for you...I don't know. The point is that he recorded works doesn't necessarily represent all he is as a player.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sure it does. We base everything on proven performance. If I used your logic I could say that a major league clean up batter that never hit a home run in any major league baseball game in his entire career could be a future hall of famer because I don't know how many homeruns he hits when he isn't actually playing a major league game. These guys are in the studio constantly and all they come out with is rookie guitar playing. Why.. because that is what they are. They may be good singers or songwriters or producers or directors or whatever but I can tell you that by what I have heard in their recorded bodies of work they both suck on guitar.

[/ QUOTE ]

You need to study logic if you think my logic would dictate the above. If you used my logic I would say that the only thing you could say about "...a major league clean up batter that never hit a home run in any major league baseball game in his entire career..." would be that he was a major league clean up batter that never hit a home run in any major league baseball game in his entire career. That is it, but that performance would not necessarily dictate what else he is capable of (such as throwing and catching.) You are talking about homeruns in major league games, vs homeruns outside of major league games, which is not the question. The question is flawed since based on his performance and what he is supposed to do...he can't and therefore sucks whether in or out of the major leagues.

My logic was geared towards the thread that said guitarist "A" doesn't shred on record therefore he can't shred. If your baseball player's job is to hit homeruns and then he doesn't hit any all season, then his performance would dictate that he can't hit homeruns. That would be like saying that guitarist "A's" job is to shred on record, but he hasn't shred on any records. In that case based solely on the assumption that being able to shred equals being a good guitarist and not being able to shred means you suck as a guitarist, then guitarist "A" would indeed suck. As you would indicate.

What I am saying is that perhaps guitarist "A's" job was to play for the song...whatever that is assuming that it means not shredding. If he plays for the song on record and doesn't shred he has done his job, but that does not mean that he can't shred.

You can shred. If AC/DC scheduled a huge tour and Malcolm got seriously ill and you were tapped to tour in his place...and you did, would that mean that you can't shred? There would be no shredding involved in the gig, but you would take it for the money and exposure. Of course there will be some idiot in the audience that says, "man AC/DC rocks and Angus is the shit, but that rhythm guitarist sucks because he can't shred." Would he be correct? OF course not, because you can shred, but the job doesn't call for it. He doesn't know what you are capable of because this is all he knows of your work. That is my logic.
