Does anyone know what these guys use for gear? I just downloaded a new song called Weapon Of Vanity that kicks ass!

Thanks, Matt

I believe i saw a concert segment on comcast on demand and they were using peavey 5150-2 heads. I cant remember the guitars off the top of my head, i will watch it again when i get home.

The Soilwork guys are using Caparison guitars. It's a japanese brand that made signature models for Mattias Eklundh and Chris Amott of Arch Enemy. Here's a link to the models they're using:

Wow, I figured they would have been using bari guitars, they're tuned down a step and a half!

Any idea on amps?

Well in one of inner sleeves in a album ...There is a rack with a Marshall 9200 poweramp...so I know they used that ...I heard they used a JMP-1 as well...but you know how gear changes with these bands...I don't know what they use now...but whatever they use ...they sound like soilwork.

I like the tone of Darkane a tad more and I think they use Engls...

I remember at one point Peter was using a 5150 and Ola was using a Peavey Trans Tube to record.

Now they're both using Randall amps.

Re: Soilwork

I would agree the guitar tone on the earlier stuff is better. The new stuff is good but it sounds a little too compressed. That drummer is a madman!

Re: Soilwork

yeah they use Caparison, says that in the sleeve of my copy of Natural Born Chaos. Not sure about amps though, but I think at least one of them had the 5150 mk1 when I saw them in 2002.
I agree on the compression being a little too much on the last two albums. You should check out "A Predator's Portrait" if ya haven't already...that album fuckin' rules!
I've got the promo of their 2005 release "stabbing the drama"...sounds killer. Better than the last one IMO.
I love the drumming and vocals, plus the intricate melodic riffing. Kind of picked up the style where Arch Enemy left it when Angela joined them.

Re: Soilwork

They changed their drummer for the new album "Stabbing the Drama", and he's pretty damn good (the band has re-included blastbeats!!! ) . But I think that I prefer the sound of "Natural Born Chaos" and "Figure Number Five" where the snare drum was much heavier than now. The guys are tunned down to B by the way.

I love the Figure Number Five album!! A lot of people seem to prefer Natural Born Chaos, but I prefer the songwriting on FNF. That's some powerful sh!t there!

Re: Soilwork

I keep hoping for a return to the Chainheart Machine days...sort of their Rust in Peace as I think of it. The newer material sounnds good, but they're overdoing the clean/harmonized vocals with the "big" choruses. Those are fine things in a song, but in moderation.
