Ok I just picked up his "Real Live" album, recored last year in Canada and HOLY SH*T! ,this guy stll wails, what a great live recording. Any other (older LOL) board members get into this guy? You've got to hear his version of "RED House" on this album
G3 should pick him up for the next tour!
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Re: Frank Marino

oh ya...Frank was a huge influence on me even before EVH.
I joined up on his forum not to long ago and seen this cd advertised..did you get this cd thru his site?
I agree tho.. the man was waay overshadowed when EVH hit the scene and metal started to dominate the 80's-90's.
Frank is a very intense player.

Our hometown (Montreal) boy!

He used to live not far from me when I was growing up here in Montreal. Had a studio in his home if I recall. Was seen from time to time at local music stores and the occasional club as well.

His work (and tone for that matter) has always been outstanding! The Mahogany Rush work is impressive as well!

Re: Frank Marino

Someone gave me a burnt copy of the CD on Friday, I've got to go out and buy it (support our musicians!) It's great quality sound and he just blazes on the whole cd (2 cds at that) and he also shows a lot more jazz prowness than usual.
I saw Mahogany Rush open up for Ted Nugent at the Boston Garden way back in (80? 81?) and If I was Ted I wouldn't have even wanted to do my set. He just completely blew the Nug right off of the stage. Great stuff

Yep, I saw the same tour at the Meadowlands in NJ. He definitely blew everybody else off the stage. Always liked Frank....and with a name like that, how can he go wrong?

Re: Frank Marino

I've become a huge Frank Marino fan in the last couple of years. Real Live is absolutely amazing! Close to three hours of solid guitar playing, and I hang on every note. I like how he introduces a solid jazz foundation into his blues/hard rock shredding.

It's really criminal that he hasn't had more success. From reading his interviews, though, it doesn't sound like he cares that much about fame/fortune, etc. He admits he was ripped off and is wary of the music business, but he has a good life and gets to play his music, his way, in front of very loyal audiences.

I haven't heard the album in question, but I've always known he's a killer guitar player.

I saw him live three times...and have all his stuff..

i guess you can say I'm a fan

I have all his stuff on disc...even Juggernaught , Who's Next and TPORNR ..those were my favorite besides the "78 Live albulm..

Frank Marino and EVH...along with Iommi...were my intiation to a life long obsession.

But now my main dude is Uli..

I would like to see Uli and Frank jam...for one they both look like they are stuck in a time warp...they both worship Hendrix..and they are both truly awesome in their own right.

Eric Johnson must have listened to Frank Marino alot when he was developing his style.
