Btw, Franks brother Vince who played second guitar on tour around '80 is also a rippin guitarist. His style is similar to Franks..phrasing wise he uses very cleanly executed speedy lines mixed in with Blues phrasing. I'm not sure who influenced the other, but they both equally kick ass and compliment the FM & MR show.

I have a tape with Randy Hansen jammimg with Uli...it's a Hendrix tribute..
Hansen NAILS Hendrix..its pretty weird.

Yeah, Randy used catch a bunch of flak for using something like shoe polish to make himself look black (probably a joke in relative to 'Silver Streak' which was about the same time frame) and he wore a fro wig ..but his act was touted as THE Hendrix tribute band to see. Can't recall if I had a gig that night or not..but from what I've read..it would have been worth seeing. I'll have to see if I can download anything off the net on him.
Oh ...OK JWoods...I misread you ...I thought you were just one of those Nu-boobs..
Sorry man...that wasn't the case...
Kick ass!!

Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
I first saw this guy on Don Kirschner also. Was friggen blown away. This long haired Wizard looking guy with a Gibson SG.
I subsequently purchased Mahogany Rush Live.
One of the finest guitar moments in history in my opinion.
Pure fury on Johnny B Goode and I'm A King Bee.
Just tears it up! One of my first influences that made me really want to get good. I use to think "if I could only play like that..."
Some guys hit the pinnacle of their own style and trying to compare them to someone else or other style is like Apples to Oranges. Frank is good at what he plays just like Yngwie or Michael Schenker.
For that genre of fast blues based riffs and solos Frank is the best I have heard. Not only fast but has that emotional expression in his playing which makes it special and makes me want to get up and plug in every time I hear it.
Anyone I have played Mahogany Rush Live to comments on what a monster Frank is on the guitar. A true super talent that never made it big. I have always wondered why.
I think Frank is the Best in his catagory...ions above the likes of SRV , Trower , Hansen , and all those other Hendrix diciples..
if you would put Frank and SRV in a room together , banging heads....when they were both in their prime...Frank would have spanked Stevie...and I mean spank him in every way possible..into oblivion!!!!!
No comparison...like trying to compare Clapton to Gary Moore!!!

Sorry I missed out on this one Frank was and still is a big influence of mine. While so many other guitarists peaked Frank is still blazing new ground. I thought 20 + years ago he was heads above the rest. I picked up the Real Live CD wow, man!!!!!! The version of Voo Doo Chlie he does is amazing, and Red House, whooooooooo For me it was always when Frank plays its like the guitar has a soul. His phrasing is outstanding!
To me the section on M. R. Live Who Do Ya Love, Electric Reflections Of War, World Anthem, Purple Haze might be the the best guitar playing recorded live, cpet maybe Hendrix - Machine Gun
When you used to do a Web search for "Frank Marino" ..
you came up with some cross dressing dude...I thought that was actually THE Frank Marino...but it wasn't.
I figured he needed the money...
