Re: Queensryche

Queensryche was the first live metal band I saw. I caught them in Austin in 1983 with Axe (remember them?) and Quiet Riot as the headliner.

Weren't they Kramer endorsers back then?

When I want to listen to the Mindcrime, then I listen to Operation Livecrime because the live version has 100 times better sound than the studio version. Studio version has terrible drum sound and as I sayd before I don't like the guitar tone.
Anyway is there anyone besides me, who likes Empire more than Mindcrime?

I like Empire better than Mindcrime, but Livecrime is the best. I think it's one of the best live metal recordings ever.

Re: Queensryche

I like Empire a little better. Overall I like heavier music than Queensryche, but I realized recently that an Empire cd has probably spent more time in my cd player than any other single album over the years. I love the guitar work on Empire, it makes me want to pick up a guitar.

But I find it hard to hold out hope for good future albums. I wish them the best though, I hope they can pull something off worthy of a Mindcrime follow up album. I wonder if that's possible without Degarmo.

To be honest, I feel Empire killed them because they had a big hit with Silent Lucidity. Most of Promised Land was attempting to milk the SL formula, and they were no longer a metal band. Then they tried to be grunge on Hear In The Now Frontier and the decline was on. Now DeGarmo was fully involved in those records, s I don't think it's completely fair to blame their decline on him leaving. His writing had also declined.

Having said that, Mike Stone is an excellent guitarist and singer. He's more than capable of filling DeGarmo's shoes if Tate and Wilton will let him play, sing and write to his ability. If they do, it will definitely be a worthy followup to the original Mindcrime.

Mindcrime is probably my favorite metal album of all time. I just hope Mike Stone can help them get back what they last when Degarmo left (tragic).

i loved miindcrime and live crime, still own both. Empire was good but the live/mind crime is my all time favorite by them. An for some reason whenever i hear them or see them it makes me pick up my ESP's, i do love my ESP's as much as the rest o fmy guitars!

Re: Queensryche

Mindcrime is on my top 10 CDs of all time list. Empire is a really good album but can't compare. I saw them on the Mindcrime (opening for Metallica) and Empire tours, they were fantastic live. Rage for Order was an album that took a few listenings, but once you get into it, it rocks too. I used to have a video (BetaMax!) of them in Japan on the Warning tour.

From the what I heard (the song they played at the end of the show I just saw) It's going to be a worthy folloe up, but don't expect it to be better or as good as Mindcrime. It wouldn't be realistic for them to try and do that. I think it will be in the same vien, but it will be it's own album. This is their last chance at metal. I think it will be good.

Empire was the alum that really turned me into a fan, although I saw them open for AC/DC, I believe, on what would have been their Rage for Order tour, and I was very impressed with them even though I had never heard any of their songs before.

I definitely prefer Livecrime to Mindcrime. I never listen to Mindcrime. Upon countless listenings, Empire is a bit on the commercial side, but it has some masterpeces on it; Resistance is my all time favorite QR tune, and a fave of mine to play on guitar. Rage for Order is brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

I've seen them several times, but the Empire tour was the pinnacle.

My fav song is Jet City Woman, it sounds so futuristic, just close your eyes while listnening to it and you'll be in the Jetsons world

Interestingly enough...when I first heard Mindcrime, I did not like it. A friend of mine played it for me, after he had really talked it up, saying how it was the best metal album he had ever heard. At that time, I was so into the whole 'shred' thing, that "anything" where the guitar took a supportive role I had a problem with. I remember saying something stupid like "Ah...too much vocals!! Where's the guitars!" Funny how ignorant that sounds now. The album is definitely in my top 20 all time. Now tell me though...Who killed Mary?... Re: Queensryche

I loved Operation Mindcrime, the double solos, Chris and Michael blew my damn mind, and helped form my style.

My favorite song off Mindcrime has to be Breaking the Silence. The guitar tone, i was in love with, i still can;t nail it. but Empire's tone is Crushing to my ears.

and Empire's one of the best records i've ever heard, personally. i got so hyped up when i was at the House of Blues, in Vegas, and they did the live video for Jet City Woman, man i was dyin' of excitement, it was sad.

i almost auditioned for a musical with Jet City woman. everything in that song means a Ton to me.

the bass riff, the intro, the solo, Tate's vocal melodies and everything, man. that song was meant to be.

im listening to it right now, lol.
