Well, I do think Dave is a better technical player than Kirk but Hammett was a huge insiration to me, in the 80's, because he was so melodic. Kirk had that Schenker vibe to his playing that Mustaine always aspired to but never achieved.

Kirk was good up to and including MOP. Dave is better but, I doubt he and James would have been able to go any further as far as writing together.

My friend and I have this argument all the time, lol. Even he now admits Dave is the better lead player. Both guys can definatly hold their own, but in the end Dave is the man.

I like Kirk's style but I gotta say that Dave's style is very good as well although his voice definitely sounds like a 12 year old girl who just started puberty. And it doesn't get any better when he tries to do the Hetfield growl either. Then again he's probably a better singer than Kirk so I guess I really can't say that one is better than the other. Just two very different, very talented, and very successful guitar players.

Dave really has no idea what he's doing on the guitar, technically. He even admitted it himself recently and said he started taking lessons, asked the teacher to start from the beginning. The guy thought he was nuts. While Dave said he "knew" how to play, he was self-taught and didn't know theory or really the "correct" way to play.
I think Kirk is a much better lead player, he's taken lessons from Joe Satriani, and Satch has said he was one of his best students. I do really like Mustaine and his style, but I've always felt Kirk was the better lead player, Dave was the better rhythm player, much like James. Also, how can anyone not like Kirk... he's got no ego whatsoever. [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] That being said, I've always kinda preferred Megadeth a little more over Metallica.
