It was kinda like driving past a car accident, such a tragedy, hard not to notice. I had been picking out "celebrities" all night and I identified Marty pretty quickly, it took only a couple of seconds to think to myself, "What the f*ck is he wearing? Is that a murse he has with him?!?"

Would Dave have been through rehab 15 times if he didn't get the boot? I can't speak for him, but if it were me, and I was ordered into rehab by my band, went through, fell of the wagon, and then got kicked out, I would have at least known in my mind that I was given a chance and blew it. I think Dave has never been able to reconcile the fact that he got was never given a second chance, and that if he had one, he would have felt totally responsible for everything ill that happened after that. I know that if you're working a job, and you mess up, you usually get a performance review from your boss outlining what needs to be fixed, and how long you have to fix it. People usually don't get fired outright, but it is common to see someone have a couple of bad reviews, get placed on a probationary period, and then get canned for failure to improve.

I'm not excusing Dave--he was a violent drunk and it has been twenty years, get over it all ready--but I can understand where he is coming from on the SKOFM video, especially in the extended footage that didn't appear in the movie.

I don't know what the extent of his drug problem was in Metallica besides drinking, but when he formed Megadeth, Chris and Gar got him hooked on heroin and he, in turn, got Junior hooked on it, so I really doubt it has much to do with his being booted from Metallica. I think he's just done about every drug in existence anyway since then. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] He's been pretty successful with Megadeth is just angry he couldn't be as successful as Metallica became.

Well, besides the manipulative editing, something else that's disingenuous about the filmmakers is that they didn't put that conversation into historical perspective.

It took place on September 13, 2001. Two days after 9/11 while the rest of the country (world) is glued to their TV sets, these dickheads are working on their stupid movie.

It was also Dave's 40th birthday. You think he wanted to spend his 40th birthday with Lars?? No, he just couldn't get a flight out to Phoenix because all the planes were grounded. SF was on the way from Vancouver, and the filmmakers worked a deal to get Dave in there. I don't know when the idea was initially proposed to Dave, or when he agreed to it, but that conversation taking place on that particular day was definitely not something Dave had much time to prepare for.
